William S. Burroughs on why RNC Chairman Reince Priebus should not have bothered with his after-election report.
“The junk merchant doesn’t sell his product to the consumer, he sells the consumer to his product. He does not improve and simplify his merchandise. He degrades and simplifies the client.”
Conservatives can never fail. Their product cannot be improved or simplified. But the American electorate can always be further degraded and simplified.
Hispanic and youth outreach? Pfft. Let’s turn the Tea Party up to eleven!!
Equally relevant: “Hustlers of the world beware, there is one mark you cannot beat: The Mark Inside.”
Wonder at what point they ask again what their base thinks. Or who their base is (beyond two Koch Brothers).
BooMan wrote a couple of weeks ago about the GOP base needing to be treated like a degenerate alcoholic or gambler. That sounds deadly accurate right now.
They’ve got to made to face the fact that they need help; they’ve got a problem. Obama and Reid just need to see this through. Salvation comes by refusing to enable the GOP’s insanity. If they won’t put the Kool-Aide down voluntarily, the voters will have to put them in rehab.
I guess Priebus is with the reality-based minority faction of the Republican Party. Or he was for that project anyway.
Speaking of which, here are a couple of additional reports that add to our understanding of how the shutdown was planned: To me the most important thing of all is what it tells you about the Republican Party. It was up for grabs and the Kochs grabbed it.

I trust your opinion. Sorry to break into your post, Booman, but I just read something at The Obama Diary that makes my hair stand. They have always been very reality based. I don’t want to hijack your post, but would appreciate a post from you about this if you so desire. I just want to crawl under a blanket!
The writer is using very emotional words, like “fiendish”, but I can see the bare bones of what she is talking about. Something like this has been in my mind for a long time because of the behavior of the GOP. It’s been so consistently on a track that brought us to where we are and I always had to ask myself why and who benefits. Money and power seemed obvious.
I really don’t want to stimulate any conspiracy theories. I grew up with that nonsense in my family so I ignore the rhetoric. I’m interested in a reply to the reality-based points, specifically the Insurrection Act. If you want to take it on I would appreciate it!
Again, my apologies for getting off subject.
coup d’état: koch brothers are warlords
http://theobamadiary.com/2013/10/07/coup-detat-koch-brothers-are-warlords/
some years back I heard a sociologist from Argentina, who had lived through that country’s troubles, call the outcome of our 2000 election “a judicial coup”
I want this on a refrigerator magnet.
I read the one about the talking asshole and thought that one actually had about as much to say about the tea party as the junk merchant.
Great take by Burroughs. no question our system has been dumbed down in order to keep the status quo in place.
Unfortunately the GOP does still have leverage: our crappy economy. and unfortunately Obama and the dems don’t have a plan to improve our economy, giving even more leverage to the GOP.
There’s a plan, just no way to enact it.
There’s a difference
“There’s a plan”.
Really? what is it? links, please.
“Just no way to enact it”.
OK, so why are we paying billions of dollars per year to run a non functional government? is this the biggest scam in history?
Sigh (pdf).
thanks
