Shouldn’t this former president be caged and told to shut-up about foreign policy forever? Now he advocates regime change in Iran as extreme right in Israel draws a red line on Rouhani.

Bush to Jewish leaders: I don’t trust Iran to change intentions toward Israel

WASHINGTON (Jerusalem Post) — President George W. Bush told a Jewish gathering that he did not trust the Iranian regime to change its intentions toward Israel.

“I will not believe in Iran’s peaceful intentions until they can irrevocably prove that it’s true,” Bush told the 1,200 guests at the gala of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, according to several people in attendance. “The United States’ foreign policy must be clear eyed and understand that until the form of government changes in Iran, it is unlikely that their intentions toward Israel will change.”

The event, held at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City, honored several past presidents of the organization and its longtime executive vice-chairman, Malcolm Hoenlein.

Bush’s appearance had not been publicized, and attendees were asked not to record or tape Bush’s comments.

The program also featured video testimonials from President Barack Obama and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, as well as remarks from several Israeli and US politicians, and Jewish notables.

Bush, Obama and Netanyahu all praised the Conference of Presidents for its work in supporting Israel and strengthening the US-Israel relationship. Attendees said that Bush thanked Conference leaders for always being professional, knowledgeable and respectful of the office of the presidency, even when there were disagreements over tactics.

Hoenlein spoke about setting up a “Rethink Israel Campaign.” I wonder how different this will be to Netanyahu’s use of social media for political goal, a hasbara campaign. A plan to rebrand Israel for the under-24 cohort.

Netanyahu makes a case for a preemptive strike

(TOI) – Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu offered a thinly veiled defense of a possible Israeli preemptive strike on Iran during a Knesset commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the Yom Kippur War.

In a speech to MKs about the war, in which Israel was surprised by a coordinated Arab invasion on the northern and southern fronts, Netanyahu explained that IDF soldiers who fought in the bitter battles of that war “saved us from paying the price of complacency.”

The second lesson, he added, was that “we can’t surrender the option of a preventive strike. It is not necessary in every situation, and it must be weighed carefully and seriously. But there are situations in which paying heed to the international price of such a step is outweighed by the price in blood we will pay if we absorb a strategic strike that will demand a response later on, and perhaps too late.”

Netanyahu added: “A preventive war, even a preventive strike, is among the most difficult decisions a government can take, because it will never be able to prove what would have happened if it had not acted.

The prime minister is engaged in a blitz of international meetings and interviews warning against any slackening of international sanctions directed at the Iranian regime over its nuclear enrichment program.
