I’m mostly happy that Mississippi Republicans narrowly rejected the Senate candidacy of Chris McDaniel tonight. There was a very slight chance that the Democratic Party could have won the seat if McDaniel was the Republican nominee, but I’ll happily give up that long-shot chance to see the country’s most conservative state reject a neo-confederate in favor of someone who believes in the federal government.

Does Mississippi have a “sore losers” law? Can McDaniel find his way onto a third party ticket?
Because awesome.
Didn’t source it, but saw a report that it does have a sore loser law. However, that may not prevent McDaniel from running as a write-in.
In the “If I had a billion dollars” vein…
I would personally find and get a “Tea Party” candidate onto every single House and Senate race in the country.
Want to talk about divide and conquer? That’s it, right there.
Oh, I’d laugh and laugh and laugh.
It’s a happy time watching TParty frothing crazy talk tonight in MS.
I agree that the Cochran victory is good for the country, the federal Government, and the GOP. He will however be over 80 at the end of this term, assuming he wins in November. Hope he discovers new reserves of energy and enthusiasm to get him through the next 6 years.
Whoa, that McDaniel “concession” speech was dog-whistling all over the place!!
Shorter McDaniel…”The South Will Rise Again!”

Already hearing talk of a McDaniels write-in campaign. If they split the GOP vote in November enough, I may have to buy an expensive stein from which to drink their delicious tears.
David Corn has been on fire all night.
Interesting that an additional 58,000 votes were cast over that in the primary. Assuming no ballot stuffing, both candidates must have beat every bush in the state to get out the vote.
The depressing takeaway is that the half of MS Republican Party is owned by retrogrades and the other half by regressives.
Even if it’s inevitable for defeat, maybe the Childers campaign and Southern Dems campaign in particular, can at the very least try to IDK get boots on the ground in the same Black neighborhoods that Cochran seemed to do in the past 2 weeks? I mean if he gonna lose anyway, what has he got to lose. Go out, and ask African Americans for their votes, don’t just assume you got them or they’ll come out. Go to the neighborhood and do it and who knows maybe just maybe you can galvanize that vote.
Doesn’t Mississippi have the largest percentage of African American votes in the south (or in the nation I thought). It’s better to try and fail, than to not even try at all…right?
Who would have thunk a negative campaigner like McDaniel would be so ungraccious…oh…everyone…okay then.
McDaniel wants to make sure that Republican voters wear their hoods and sheets to the polls apparently.
If there was indeed a lot of African-American turnout for Cochran, Childers and Cochran are going to be fighting over that segment for a margin.
How divisive McDaniel is will be key to the results in November. And how much Childers is willing to move toward the African-American community instead of taking them for granted. He’s running statewide now and not just from Elvis country.
