Working. Servicing the machines that sort your mail, like the other “useless civil service drones” that keep your country running.
Also working, but at least my work is actually, empirically useless.
Hey, Steggles, what do you do? Lawyer? Or Stock Broker?
Ha! Writer.
If you write fiction, you bring a little joy into some reader’s life. If you write non-fiction, you bring the reader edification. If you write advertising, quit!
Yes, I’ll be working too. Either around the house or at the office, catching up on whatever doesn’t get done today. But working around the house is something I enjoy and working at the office is usually not too bad either so I consider myself lucky.
Going to the roof of my building to watch the fireworks. Having some friends over and cooking a quick meal for them.
Nope. None at all. Husband is a musician = no time off.
My family is driving to spend the weekend at my aunt and uncle’s place in West Virginia. We’ll have a birthday party there for my mom, who turns 79 today.
It’s a nice annual get-together for all of us, but we’ll be missing my youngest son, who’s got an a capella gig Friday with his group. They need his bass!
I hope everyone has a great weekend!
Thank you! And I think I can speak for others when I say, “Tell your Mom ‘Happy Birthday from the Frog Pond'”.
Not yet but burgers, bbq chx, firework, and family will work in somehow.
May hit the Indy car race at pocono and the wife wants to take a flying lesson too.
Sounds like I should start planning. 🙂
What’s Nick doing with the flying?
Nick and the kids bought Mom an airplane ride/lesson for Mothers Day. If the weather looks good she wants to use the certificate on the weekend.
Nick is still into flying. He will be a counselor at the aviation camp in a few weeks.
Martin, if you are trying to get invited over, you are going to have to be more insistent.
BBQ and a movie
Weeding, then some more weeding, then a little more weeding, then collapsing.
Been there. Done that. Called it a “vacation”.
Probably what most Americans do — BBQ, drink beer, fireworks, shooting guns at the sky.
If we stay sober, might instead watch a WC game or two.
Isn’t that a day at a Georgia Wal-Mart?
on the 4th, marching in the local parade. otherwise a normal weekend of gardening, housecleaning and some work. Maybe I’ll brew.
working, taking the holiday later in the month
Normal family stuff.
Your mom sounds pretty cool. That isn’t a “your mom” joke, either.
She is an encyclopedia of useless information. However, she remembers things from when I was little, when I wasn’t born, etc that no one else does. So, I listen but only for a while.
One person’s useless information is another person’s treasure trove.
Thanks for your comment.
Hey, I’d love to converse with your Mom. She sounds like a real polymath.
She is not like other people. Other women of that age (87) are strictly into family, and she is that. She is not religious, although all in her family save her are fanatics. She is even somewhat open-minded at her age which is unusual.
I’m in the middle of school, so while my family are out of town this week, I am cranking through as much reading and writing and project(s)-completion as I can before next week.
Ordinarily I’d go to a neighborhood parade/blowout and then an arts/music festival and then watch fireworks. This year I’ll make some fruit cobbler or something and eat it all before my family gets home. Plus watch the hurricane come up the coast. Now back to work!
I might trip on mushrooms for the first time in 20 years.
Other than that, nothing.
Big barbie at my old firehouse. The chief is making homemade ice cream.
