Every election cycle I find a day or two to canvass. I don’t do it because I delude myself that my efforts are going to swing any elections by themselves. I do it mainly for my own mental health. I used to organize whole counties for voter registration and Get Out the Vote drives, and I just have a bug that makes me want to get out in the field and work. I like to talk to voters, and I especially like to interact with the highly motivated volunteers and organizers who care enough about our political process to want to make a difference. Those are my people, and I like to be close to them around election time.
So, maybe Sunday I’ll find a few hours to get in the field. I know Manan Trivedi could use some help. It’s going to be a bad day for the Republicans in Pennsylvania on November 4th because Tom Corbett is going to lose by 25 points or more. Under the circumstances, a few Dems lower on the ticket might be able to pull off upsets.
Regardless, field work is in my blood and I get agitated around Election Day if I don’t get my fix.
Who’s running in your area that needs some help?
Here in Washington state my wife and I already received ballots in mail. Both are filled out and already put in the huge voting return box down the street. We voted for all of the Democratic Party members that were running.
So, you have plenty of time to go get ten more votes each…
Clay Aiken certainly could use some help against Renee Elmers.
Moral Monday has a rally soon in Rockingham NC.
So, how do we help Clay Aiken?
Here the web site:
Clay Aiken for Congress
I have no idea what the polling is like for the Ellmers-Aiken race.
Virginia Foxx has Tea Party opposition running as a Democrat. How about that state party failure.
Here in Northern New Mexico we just had a huge rally for candidates. Gary King needs a lot of help throughout the state, trying to beat Susana Martinez. Polling looks bad and he has no money. Efforts on the ground in Bernalillo County very important. Canvassing and calls — in case any readers are in NM.
(R-MT)” is a horrific prospect.
*(Slick, hardcore right-winger pretending to “bipartisan” “moderation”. And pulling it off well enough that the gullible local fishwrap endorsed him!)
Not looking good, though.
It’ll be curious what kind of vote Curtis gets. Hopefully she’ll run again in the future. Her effort is hurt by Walsh’s stupidity. How could Montana Democrats not know that Walsh was a fraud and phony?
I canvassed for about 5 hours today. Knocked on almost 70 doors. With the problems that have cropped up with some on our state-wide slate, I am pretty much to the point of just encouraging known Dem voters to make sure they show up. There was really no period of canvassing that was considered persuasion. Opinions formed very early, and the circumstances surrounding Ed Fitzgerald’s problems simply poisoned the entire Democratic well. Connie Pillich might stand a chance of snagging the Treasurer’s office from Josh Mandel, if turnout can be achieved. Without that, it is likely the GOP will make a clean sweep. After I finished, I spent about an hour shooting the shit with a few other activists. It seems that everyone is just counting the days until this is over. We are still pounding the pavement, because there is no other conceivable option. But like them, I will be happy to see this one in the rear view mirror. I won’t be happy with the results, by any means. But I’ll leave it all on the field, and live to fight another day. The State Party is the one that will have to answer for the way this whole thing played out. A very mismanaged effort, in my opinion. A year ago, things were ripe in this state for some real positive change. And as far as I’m concerned, it is pretty much all in the shitter right now. What really sucks and makes it frustrating as hell is that it didn’t have to be this way. And that fact just makes it infinitely tougher down in the trenches.
OK, tough times in Ohio. Candidate was hand-picked by Chris Redfern, who is putting blame on others.
Yes, a mess. Issues will cause plenty of indifference by voters.
Yep. Fitzgerald had time to recover his early blunder of choosing Eric Kearney as his running mate. But the license thing was a knockout blow.
And Redfern runs the show in Columbus. He can try and deflect blame, if he wishes. But the buck stops at his desk. Will be interested to hear his personal take, next time he is in our area and drops by.
