Well, this is nice but I wonder what John McCain will think about it.

[Mitch] McConnell also is intrigued by [Rand] Paul’s plans for 2016, when Kentucky’s junior senator faces re-election to his Senate seat while potentially running for president.

It’s a safe bet that Paul won’t be the only member of McConnell’s GOP caucus who considers trying for a move to the other end of Pennsylvania Avenue.

Does that require a tricky balance?

“(It’s) not tricky at all,” McConnell said. “Obviously, I’m a big supporter of Rand Paul. We’ve developed a very tight relationship, and I’m for him.”

For president?

“Whatever he decides to do,” McConnell said. “I don’t think he’s made a final decision on that. But he’ll be able to count on me.”

In case Rand Paul actually wins the Republican nomination two years from now, I have this filed away as a sample endorsement from Senator McCain:

It’s no secret that Paul and McCain aren’t always on the friendliest terms. Last month, McCain accused Paul of disseminating misinformation after Paul falsely claimed that the former GOP presidential candidate was photographed with Islamic State militants during a Syria visit last year.

“I can’t believe Rand is still repeating this stuff, which came from a Hezbollah newspaper in Lebanon!” McCain, who has clashed with Paul over funding moderate Syrian rebels, told The Daily Beast in September. “He’s getting his information from Hezbollah. It’s outrageous … I don’t know if Rand is dishonest or misinformed.”

And then there’s McCain’s daughter, Meghan.

“They hate each other,” McCain, a co-host on Pivot TV’s “TakePart Live,” said Wednesday on Howard Stern’s SiriusXM radio show. “Oh yeah, they hate each other.”

I think it’s safe to say that McCain is disgusted with the new Senate Majority Leader.

Good times.
