If you assume that the modern GOP is the cultural equivalent of the drunk paranoid racist at the end of every bar in every suburban tavern in the whole country, Louie Gohmert is still too crazy to be their leader.

Apparently the folks in the House have decided that Boehner’s bar is more congenial than Goehmert’s stand-up act. Has the GOP finally reached the outer limits of crazy? Is it all just rhetoric from here on out?
The GOP is also not too keen on those that cut in line. They prefer their crazies to exhibit staying power.
Say what you will this is an entertaining spectacle; I have been trawling through a number of Right sites with considerable amusement. Not to mention (warning Newsmax link) the Caddell poll. Squirming.
Insights? Conservatives are dumb as ever and mad as hell. Strategies? Blocking Boehner in the first round, abstentions, votes for Pelosi. Meeoow. Having established reactionaries in scores of safe seats nationwide the GOP is likely to endure at least a decade of this.
Scary people. I keep re-learning not to assume that they have already displayed their most outrageous act within the halls of Congress. And so, when Louie becomes their leader I would just like the privilege of a glimpse of McConnell’s face as he reacts.
Gohmert has no more chance than my border collie of becoming speaker; that’s not the point.
This is the nihilism caucus children attempting to eat Saturn. And you are right, they are scary; the minority “ends versus means” argument to the brink of rebellion. At least the GOP is absorbing the impact for now.
Sorry, I knew your point, just wandered into the Rep bizarre world of ‘be careful what you wish for’. When the votes are tallied that teach Boehner a lesson, may they not bring a leader even worse than B.
I’m not sure that Gohmert would be worse than Boehner.
This is, of course, a Trotskyist position.
I would love to see Gohmert run the House for the Republicans. It may be the only thing that lighten the depression over the next two years.
Watching the Rep’s tie themselves in knots trying to decide who they will vote against, Gohmert or Obama after winning the larger majority and failing miserably to set up ’16 would indeed be worth the watch.
The fact that Gohmert’s announcement even gets a serious headline across a wide swath of national media should really be the canary in the coal mine that U.S. politics is completely off the rails. Here is a guy who, if he was not already in a nationally elected political office, could well be rationally argued as worthy of being involuntarily committed for at least 72 hours of psychiatric observation. The shit that comes out of his mouth is every bit as delusional and fantastical as anything that has come out of the mouth of my clinically diagnosed schizophrenic brother.
I believe that a regimen of anti-psychotic medication would go a long way toward make Louis Gohmert a productive member of society, and who might then stand a chance of becoming grounded in reality.
Any way the Democrats can insure he wins the election? I know it’s “bad for the country” but the House doesn’t do anything anyway.
That would be some Grade-A ratfucking.
The House will be doing something very soon now and we will all regret it.
