not funk; I’ll be seeing these guys tonight.
Boy, was that nice. God I miss the 60’s, 70’s.
This is going in my playlist. Wow great. Oh, to be young again!
….and one more… (look, it’s a good song, and I don’t care what movie it was in!)
goddammit, try #2. This interface is a little TOO funky
OK, Martin, you want to throw down the funk? Here is the absolute bottom of the funk:
Amazing interplay between the great, great instrumental solos and James’ vocals urging the players on and syncopating off them. Oh my God, special attention is taken by Catfish’s shredding on guitar while little brother Bootsy lays down the bass, but Fred’s horn solo is ridiculous as well.
Here’s film of the bank playing the same song the next night in the same club. The audio quality is inferior, but it is very entertaining to see the band delivering the funk with a perfectly disciplined and highly FUN style:

Good song post, BTW.
One of my very favorite comments threads for a YouTube post is this one- person after person creatively describing their particular method of drooling over the keyboard. Funniest: “i slobed for her and screamed her name for hours and then the ambulance came to get me” and “I saw this after smoking weed maybe my 6th or 7th time. Me and and my buddy were fucking speechless in a trance. Two horny 15 year olds that got mindfucked by this sex bomb”
I can see youre on it,
You want me to teach thee
Techniques that freaks these boys,
It can’t be bought,
Just know, thieves get caught,
Watch if your smart,
La la-la la la,
Warm it up,
La la-la la la,
The boys are waiting.
Sitting by the dance floor checkin’ it out/
Watchin’ the man with the fast feet/
He’s got the hippest threads and the bad boogaloo/
And a big ol’ bag of tricks
One of my favorites!!
One of my favorites!!
Look and listen how free and easy Aretha sang while belting out those phrases with her incredible octave range, making it swing while laying down the testimony:
Some of the most interesting lyrics in the history of pop music:
Lookin’ at the devil/grinnin’ at his gun/
Fingers start shakin’I begin to run
Bullets start chasin/I begin to stop/
We begin to wrestle/I was on the top
Griel Marcus wrote wonderfully about this extremely malevolent variation on the Stagger Lee legend.
Just because….
Yum…Marvin. Another favorite.
I just listened to this:
