The beat goes on. 49 people dead, over 50 injured in a slaughter of innocents at an Orlando night club. We grieve for the victims, and again we pray that this will end, and in a few days, this story fades from the memory of the American people, until it happens again, then the cycle continues, more grieving, more prayers and again, nothing gets done.
This is what the Republicans want. They seems like they care, but they don’t. The Democrats bring up the issue of gun control, banning assault weapons, making it harder to purchase a gun, and all the Republicans do, is spout fucking nonsense, telling us how the gun is not responsible. Meanwhile, the NRA continues to grease their palms with a bunch more zeroes for the checks they write, getting more blood on their hands, and basically laughing while Americans murder themselves at an obscene rate.
What happened in Orlando should finally be a wake up call for us. An average of 35,000 people are shot to death by guns every year. Think about that. 58,000 US soldiers died in the whole Vietnam war, and that lasted years, while we are killing ourselves at the rate of 14 Vietnam’s in the past 20 years. However, the chances of anything getting done is zero. The NRA, and the Republicans would rather see the slaughter continue, pray for the families and the victims, and continue to deny that a problems with guns exists. The United States is the only industrialized country that murders its citizens like this. No other developed country even comes close.
Yes, Orlando is a tragedy. 49 innocent lives snuffed out by hate, but the response to it by the GOP and the NRA is nothing short of criminal. Save me your speeches of grieving for the families and our thoughts and prayers go out to the people of Orlando. We all know it’s a bunch of bullshit.
The NRA had a revenue of almost $350 million for 2013, the most recently reported data. The NRA has a political action committee to support pro-gun rights candidates. Since 2005, this PAC has received $85 million in donations. Some political funding comes from large corporations, many within the gun industry; however, the gun industry can not directly donate to the PAC. The success rate is 66% for electing pro-gun rights candidates (primarily Republicans) and defeating gun control candidates (primarily Democrats). The NRA also has a lobby called the NRA Institute for Legislative Action. In the 2 year 2014 cycle, this lobby spent $36 million on legislation. Wayne LaPierre, the CEO of the NRA earns nearly $1 million.
