When my alarm went off this morning, I did not want to get out of bed and go play soccer. But then, of course, I thought about the example that would set for my son and I dragged my sorry ass out to the athletic fields and scored within the first thirty seconds of the game.
My second goal, however, was the most satisfying of any I’ve scored in soccer. It was a head-snapping header of a ricochet from distance that the goalie got a hand on but could not stop.
So, the lesson, folks, is “just do it,” even if you haven’t had enough sleep and it’s pretty warm and comfortable in that bed.
Also, VOTE!
Done.
A very western perspective.
Well done! I would have, should have, played soccer had my left leg been good for anything except standing on. Didn’t stop me playing table tennis to a high standard and social tennis now. I think playing sport at a competitive level gives you a whole new perspective on life and teaches you how to deal with tension and conflict. I hope your son learns from your example!
That was me yesterday, and I wound up getting in a 10.5 mile run.
I feel that way ALL THE TIME. I rolled out of bed at daylight and wrestled with that very thing. But I dragged my ass out of bed, laced up my running shoes and hit the road. 5 miles later, as is almost always the case, the benefits far outweighed that extra hour in the sack.
When it’s all said and done, I never regret it.
