Josh Marshall has a good article today pointing out that Russian hacking was announced during the election and greeted with ostentatious yawns by Republicans. What he misses is why the Republicans do care now. The post-election CIA announcement includes the fact that the RNC was hacked too, although none of those emails were published. The Republicans are now scared of what Russia has on them. When it was just a question of throwing the election their way, they were delighted, and they certainly don’t want that outcome challenged, but now they are feeling cold Russian fingers on their own balls.
It’s funny that at this stage in my life, I am reminded of a slogan from my distant past: “Better dead than Red.” Now that slogan was clearly meant to be anti-Soviet, but more anti-communist generally speaking. I seriously doubt that when the GOP became referred to as “Red” (that was merely an accident of Presidential election coverage) that anyone would have given any serious thought to a GOP aligned with a Russian dictator – an “elected” dictator, but a dictator nonetheless. And yet here we are. Comrade Putin’s Russia is a postmodern rehash of the late-period USSR without the lip service to Marxist-Leninist rhetoric – at least from my perspective that seems a fair characterization. And leading the way in the US is Comrade Donny and the rest of his sorry party apparatchiks who will now be beholden to that Russian dictator. And those same folks who rabidly hated commies? They might as well give up the damned pretense and get out their hammer and sickle flags. Long live the USSA.
but (as top-post suggests) amenable to blackmail by, that Russian “elected” dictator.
It’s certainly a jarring flip-flop seeing GOPers sucking up to the rooskies’ (another blast from the past) authoritarian strongman.
I’ve become convinced Russia has the goods on Trump.
Putin probably hand picked the SOS
Everything he has said damages everyone except Russia
I’m not a person that believes in coincidence.
So yes, suddenly we will get all sorts of stories on how the hacks should be ignored because of the source.
But Russia is not alone.
And Burnett probably owns a piece of Trump. He is the one who refused to release the tapes.
And then there is Turkey
And let’s not forget Jeffrey Epstein
So compromised, from so many directions.
