I suspected it. Why should a company incur the expense of processing millions of returns without charge?
Is this why the IRS no longer sends forms and instructions, even when the taxpayer requests them?
I guess IRS assumes you can get forms online, or at the local library.
There are all sorts of “services” that are free or even pay that make no sense if you just stop and think for a minute.
What gets me is the advertising for DNA “ancestry” to pay to find out your dna is “40%” central Europe.
Big deal. so you get to pay for the privilege of putting your DNA in a searchable database. DNA with all the markers for cancer, heart disease, etc… Markers for yourself and relatives. Databases that could be sold to , insurance companies, govt agencies, marketers, etc…
Just so you can find out you are 10% Italian.

I had to print out forms for my sister from my $60 Turbotax. The local library no longer has them, nor the post office. I was able to complete my IL income tax on line from the IL IRS web site. Granted, the IL forms are a lot simpler than the US forms.
Re: DNA
Those searchs are something good for the adopted and others who have reason to doubt their official ancestry. The real good use is to check for those gene markers.
As my father died from Parkinson’s, I’m very interested in that. My mother died from breast cancer metastasing and my daughter is interested in those markers.
Medical privacy is a joke as long as your employer has full access by virtue of paying for insurance. All that I see is that every year I have to fill out forms to allow the doctors to talk to my wife and vice versa. However BCBS and my employer can see everything. Only spouses, who used to be your legal agent, do not have that right. Strangely this all came about because of HIV and who should really know if you have HIV if not your spouse who is at risk?
