Hello again painting fans.
This week I will be continuing with the Cold Spring, NY scene. The photo that I’m using is seen directly below. I’ll be using my usual acrylic paints on a 5×7 inch canvas.
When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo directly below.
Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.
The changes are many for this week’s cycle. Out in back, the trees (Yes, those are trees and not mountains.) have been overpainted with shaded and lit areas. Note that the bushes out in front have been treated similarly. On top, I’ve revised the left side roof just a bit. Below that, I’ve darkened the shadowed left side of the house. Note that the window surrounds have been revised to show a shadows on their respective left sides and bottoms and not the former uniform surrounding line. I’ve also completed the porch and added some yellow to the lit portions of the house. Finally, the brown car now has the side marker light it needed. The painting is now done.
The current and final state of the painting is seen in the photo directly below.
I’ll have a new painting to show you next week. See you then.
Earlier paintings in this series can be seen here.

Centraal City in Amsterdam near the train station. Was only there for an overnight layover, so really did not get to walk around the way I would have wanted. Another time.
Nice job on the painting, boran2.
Hope everyone got some time to relax and/or play this weekend. We hung out with family for most of the day today. One of my kids just bought a 1940s HUD repo house and is rehabbing it. He has the interior stripped down to the studs and is having to replace a lot of the rotted floor system. After brunch everyone went over to check out his progress so far. Lots of interesting plants and trees sprouting in the yard, including a peach tree with lots of baby peaches on it.
I’m recovering from another business trip. Last one for a couple months. Turns out that the western desert regions got a lot of precip, and that precip causes all sorts of allergens that are not especially good for me. So it goes. So this weekend is about recovery going into a very busy week ahead.
It’s been a thing the last month or so to go look at the desert flowers, around here it’s usually Anza Borrego.
And yep, desert flowers can bring out the allergies.
.
One of the cashiers (who was sneezing quite a bit herself) told me that the ragweed in the area was awful this year. Out in the part of the US I call home, that usually is a problem during the fall. So it goes. Made for a fun plane trip home. But yeah, it sure looked beautiful, and the view of snow-capped mountains was quite nice. Glad to see some drought-parched portions of the US get some much needed rain.
And yes, the southern California deserts are quite lovely when there is a good rain year. I loved those years back when I still lived there.
Something in this Hudson Valley is doing a number on my sinuses. And supposedly I have no allergies. Hmm.
One of the presumed consequences of climate change is that we’ll find ourselves exposed to more allergens. Bad news for those of us who are allergy sufferers, but also bad for those who never even knew they had allergies! These last few months have definitely been something else.
