Similarly, when she was in Olympia, Wash., Friday, Murray told Senate Majority Leader Lisa Brown,D-Spokane, and other state leaders,”I have two words for anyone who’s talking about impeachment: Dick Cheney,” said Alex Glass,a spokeswoman for Murray.
How establishment of you.
In this case, anyone is better than Trump. Said so during the primaries. Said so during GE. Say so now.
Ah, the sweet bliss of youthful naiveté or failure of imagination. Know it well from back when “nobody could be worse than Nixon.” Since then, none have been better and most have been worse.
A Koch (John Birchers) backed Christian fundie is the nightmare liberals have feared since 1964.
You’re imagining that after removal there is an agenda to move forward with political capital to do it with. If we are at that point, there is no agenda. All this “Pence is worse” crap from the left is pure nonsense.
If this proposition becomes a reality and President Pence proves that the left is correct, trust you’ll have the decency to admit that you’re wrong. Won’t hold my breath because all the “centrists” that were convinced that Saddam had WMD and taking out his regime would be quick and paid for with Iraq’s oil revenues have had a host of reasons for why they were wrong and have refused to admit that “the left” was completely correct.
Pence would be the fulfillment of the fundie/Kochs decades long agenda and you seriously believe that they would waste such an opportunity?
None of those centrists comment on this blog. It’s telling that this how you see the dichotomy here.
For one, you cannot know that any agenda that passes under President Pence would not have passed under President Trump. There is every indication that Trump supports every bit of the GOP agenda and to think otherwise would indicate that you actually believe Trump’s campaign promises.
I’m sure you’ll get this admission that you, which is who you mean by the “left”, are correct just as soon as you admit that you are part of the left that lost embarrassingly to a fraud like Donald Trump.
If and/or when Strongman Trump is out of the White House, it’ll be a “return to normalcy” where the impetus will be on the left to work with Pence and the Republican party to “right the ship of state”.
The electorate who sat around and watched Strongman Trump and then went out and elected him (Strongman Trump voters, anti-Hillary voters, SpaceJesus/ZombieWashington voters, and most fucking definitely non-voters) aren’t political observers the way anyone who reads, writes, or occasionally glances at this site are. Hence, people who don’t typically pay attention and who don’t really know better will see a “regular” politician and say, “can’t we all just get along”, which sure as shit ain’t going to help the people, never mind the left.
The only thing better than someone else as President than Strongman Trump, is an embattled, disgraced Strongman Trump limping into November of 2018, and on figurative life-support in November of 2020.
Pence is more dangerous than Strongman Trump because as others have noted, his policy proposals are just as bad as Strongman Trump, and the son-of-a-bitch looks respectful and can use his inside voice when called for.
Pence is essentially a well-spoken, statuesque version of Strongman Trump, with a major evangelical fervor who would be able to capitalize on a Republican party that does the “right thing for the wrong reason”, which is what it would take to remove Strongman Trump.
Assuming Strongman Trump remains mired in scandal the next 1200+ days (god/universe, help us all), he and the Republican party will be much weaker, and it will increase left-wing activism.
It’s left-wing activism, not the Democratic party, that has always and will always get shit done, making the Democratic party do the right thing, or at least the less evil thing – depending on whether someone wants to use the Democratic party as a vehicle, or is still engaged in the circular firing squad because… reasons.
This is of course based on the proposition that Trump doesn’t crash the economies of the world by something like attacking North Korea or Iran, defaulting on the US’s debt, or any number of other stupidly bone headed things Trump stand a much greater than 0 chance of doing in the next four years in a desperate bid to get his numbers up.
Playing chicken with the entire world including US domestic policy vs playing chicken with just US domestic policy is a really big gamble.
It also smacks of moral arrogance because if the whole world goes up in smoke because you guys bet wrong, you don’t have to live with the consequences unlike if Pence blows up on US domestic policy.

So maybe this isn’t popular here, but it actually does take talent to make it to the top of a Fortune 10 company.
I don’t think Tillerson has a shred of morality, but he has to be at least marginally competent.
What sort of “talent?” Are the top 11-500 chopped liver? Here are the current FortuneTop 10. What is the talent shared by the ten CEOs that differentiates them from the rest of the pack?
Not denying that almost all CEOs have innate intelligence, knowledge, experience, expertise, and skills (far beyond whatever Trump possesses), but most are specific to the companies they manage. Very few have skill sets that are transferable to another industry. And luck is always a factor. Had the Deepwater Horizon blowout been Exxon Mobil’s instead of BP’s, would Tillerson have survived as CEO?
Amoral professionally doesn’t mean a CEO has no morals. However, they may be better able to compartmentalize their morality than most people. High ethical standards — once prevalent in business and not uncommon in government — have become an impediment to reaching the top.
Too soon to tell if the job skills from running an office furniture manufacturer can be transferred to an auto manufacturer (note: Hackett was on the Ford Board for three years before being hired on to run Ford’s “mobility services” subsidiary.
I remember all that time you spent before the election talking about how dangerous Trump/Pence would be for abortion rights. And now the concern trolling act.
I mean can you imagine if President Pence nominates someone like Gorsuch to the bench…?

Undoubtedly, some officials will leave when faced with Trump’s sticks. But plenty, I suspect, will overcome their qualms, accept Trump’s carrots, and do his bidding. I have witnessed this dynamic firsthand. In 1978, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee was interested in what steps American law enforcement and counterintelligence officials were taking (or not taking) to stop the intelligence services of repressive “allies,” such as Pinochet’s Chile, the shah’s Iran, and Marcos’s Philippines, from harassing, surveilling, and intimidating opponents within the United States. In Langley, Fort Meade, and elsewhere, my colleagues and I took the (still classified) statements of dozens of security officials. Some of them described conduct they found deeply repugnant. But we encountered no one who had objected, and identified no official who had resigned in disagreement. Everyone stayed.
Hey I remember that game:
How establishment of you.

It truly is a nice bit of theater.

In the tradition of Musical Friday, have you ever heard Glenn Frey’s “I’ve got mine!” It’s on the Strange Weather album.
Her’s a link. Didn’t knock my socks off.
