I’m glad to hear that the Attorney General has agreed to appear before Congress and testify about all the lies he’s been telling.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions is scheduled to testify before the House Judiciary Committee next Tuesday as part of its probe into Russian interference in the presidential election, The Hill confirmed on Tuesday.
Sessions’s appearance will allow Democrats on the panel to pepper the Justice Department chief about his past statements concerning exchanges with Russian officials during the time he served the Trump campaign last year.
Democrats are particularly interested in his ties to former Trump campaign staffer George Papadopoulos, who pleaded guilty to lying to FBI agents about contacts with Russians.
The only problem is that Sessions told most of his lies to the Senate, not the House. He perjured himself during his confirmation hearing in the Senate and he perjured himself again when he appeared before the Senate in both June and October.
I think he should be going to the Senate to correct the record. That’s what Senate Democrats are demanding, and going to speak with the House is more procrastination than responsiveness.
Hell, he’s testifying to the wrong branch of government. I hope Mueller is able to ring him up sooner rather than later.
Well, this just allows the administration to hang out their desired narrative that Sessions has done what everyone was asking of him and testified in public to address the questions of Congress. Will the media allow him to get away with it? An open question, I guess. Of course, since a large percentage of Americans don’t even know the circumstances of his lying, that it occurred in the Senate, or even that the Senate is responsible for confirmation of Presidential appointments, all they might see is a headline, which will convince the ignorati that everything else surrounding this is just “politics as usual” in Washington.
So much stupidity. And now I have to go home and hold my breath on how this election day turns out. If tonight ends up, once again, as a colossal shitfest, I’m not sure I will be able to get out of bed tomorrow.
And now I see that Syria has signed on to the Paris Climate Agreement, leaving us as the only country on the goddamned planet to not be a signatory. I have about fucking had it. I am on the cusp of hating every MF person in this country who voted for this dipshit piece of human excrement.
Will anyone grill Sessions like Senator Franken did?
Mike, I’m also in Ohio. My husband and I will vote after he gets home from work. We have a couple of school board issues and the prescription drug issues, and a victim’s rights issue. I hope voters turn out, if for no reason more than to show a strong Democratic presence.
As the terrible tax vote looms and health care staggers on, I agree with you feelings of absolute rage against this administration and the people who voted for it. Trump is showing his ignorance and total lack of respect for other countries and their leadership.
I seem to be angry all of the time.
As I recall, we are not very far from each other. I stopped on the way home from work and voted. From what I could glean by my ballot number, our precinct might only have a voting rate today somewhere in the teens or low twenties. If that is the case, it will just contribute to the anger and despair which seems to be a perpetual state for me these days.
It seems as if every single aspect of the political world is conspiring to drive me over the brink. The apathy and ignorance that seems all encompassing these days is just a thousand pound weight that I cannot seem to throw off my back. My coping skills are frayed, and I just can’t seem to find a sweet spot that will give me any relief from this gnawing anger in my gut. A gnawing that just never goes away.
I’m in Dayton. We voted and our polling place covered four precincts. They had more than twenty machines, a big table for paper ballots, and at least a dozen poll workers. The gal I spoke to there said they had almost 780 voters today.
We dropped my son off at his precinct and they had about 400 voters. They seemed pleased with that number for a midterm election.
I don’t know how to fix our country as long as there are citizens who support a president like Trump and who support a party that stands for everyhting we despise. I know we can’t ever give up, but my mental health is really taking a beating. It seems nothing will change Trump fans or the Republicans. Guns, hurricane relief, racism, immigration, health care, taxes…we just keep losing. We need a win.
Well kids, some good news! The best results of course were in Virginia and New Jersey, but here in Dayton we passed some school and park levy renewals, a social service levy that will provide care for those in need, and seated new school board members.
What these results say to me is that people do still care. We have had a terrible year and we have been fighting like mad to keep ourselves above water. This midterm says that we are not done, we are not beaten, we are not giving up.
Baby steps, but still moving forward.
Here in Warren County, we got a Democrat on Lebanon City Council, and at least one Dem on a local school board. And we had some others who were extremely competitive. Just having Democrats on local ballots around her is kind of a new thing for a lot of people. While most of these are non-partisan races, the political leanings of people who are running are certainly no secret. Baby steps, sure. But here in this blood red county, as Joe Biden is famous for saying, this is a BIG F@#ing DEAL!
For the first time in a long time, I am feeling just a little bit hopeful. I think a lot of Democrats around here went to bed last night with smiles on their faces.
Turnout here was 30% of registered voters. We have seen years where it has been in the 20’s. I would say, given the things which were on the ballot, this was a somewhat typical off-year turnout in our county.
Thank you for using the correct terminology. This was an off year election, not a mid-term election. Mid-term is 2018.
RE:
Me, too. And I’m pretty sure that’s not good for me. Nor anyone else.
For those of you of a certain age (as I am), I quote the Church Lady: “Well isn’t that special??”
Of course, Beauregard is going to testify to the House, where he’ll probably get a standing ovation. No doubt, the rightwing wurlitzer is on full hyperspin about how this is the “right” thing to do blah blah blah… and the Trumpists will clap and cheer.
Like others here – even though I don’t have any elections today – every day brings new levels of repulsion and disgust.
And to think that everything that Moron does that’s super shameful brings unfettered delight to his MAGA fans. It’s just vile and repulsive.
I do my best to remain positive bc it won’t do me or anyone else any good if I’m off my head with anger, but it does take effort not to be in a daily rage against this “machine.”
But, Beauregard has got to be real careful that what he states in the House is consistent to his Senate testimony. The dems will not trip up Beauregard but they could just ask him questions where his response will be “I don’t recall”.
Well, if tonight’s election results don’t put The Fear into Congressional Republicans, I don’t know what will.
Will they figure out that cutting Trump’s throat is the only move they have left?
My guess is the only thing that really terrifies them is their donors turning off the spigot.
True enough, but there is a limit to this sort of thing. There is a limit to which big money can move the needle in terms of votes. We’re starting to see that play out.
