Last week’s cafe answered the question regarding the meaning of life, the universe, and everything (42 – assuming you did not already know that). This week’s edition offers no answers – but makes up for it with Talking Heads right around their peak:
Enjoy. I’ll try to have another one up next week, time permitting of course.
Just remember: tips and recs make bartenders and DJs very happy. May the 4s be with you.
“May the 4s be with you” — I have just the drink for that sentiment — Star Wars Cocktails: The Jedi vs The Sith.
I have more where that came from.
So, any requests?
And since it appears that economic “shock therapy” is a very realistic threat in the US, how about a classic Ramones song, Gimme Gimme Shock Treatment
Well, shit, I’ll take your “very realistic threat in the US” and raise you one:
In fact, I’ll raise you two:
Man, they really had a fun time ripping through this live performance.
I knew my first kid was going to turn out okay when I was taking him to daycare – must have been 3 at the time – and he was bopping his head to that song on the radio. One of the classics.
I’ve already posted my two favorite Talking Heads songs in response to Midweek Cafe and Lounge, Vol. 38, so I’m going slightly further afield with America Is Waiting by Brian Eno and David Byrne.
Don, I think I posted this same live performance of “Born Under Punches” in a recent Midweek Cafe of yours. Great minds (and musical tastes!) think alike, Brother.
I’ve grown the habit of returning to the many recordings of John Bonham’s isolated drum tracks. On this one, it reminds us of how thoroughly his drums carried much of the lead instrument role in this, Led Zeppelin’s last hit:
Given the rapidly deteriorating mind marinating in the brain pan of our current President, this is an appropriate non-musical diversion:
With bonus Teri Garr (sigh).
And a semi-musical, all-fun diversion. One of the greatest movies of all time:
“Do your mothers know you’re Ramones?”
With copious amounts of P.J. Soles (sigh).
And if you don’t have a spare 90 minutes, here’s a fully musical, very fun song and performance from the movie:
I loved that movie. Didn’t get to see it first run – just a bit too young, no wheels, that sort of thing – but did see it a few years later thanks to a local video rental store (hard to imagine that those were a thing). Seen it a couple times since. Worth watching definitely. 🙂

that didn’t work.
