Should the American Jewish community disown Stephen Miller?
What would that mean? Would it make a difference? Would he even notice?
The 32-year-old White House senior policy adviser is in the news once again, this time offering a full-throated endorsement of the Trump administration’s decision to separate families seeking refuge on our southern border. The practice is so morally repugnant that even stalwart members of the president’s own party are denouncing it — though not nearly enough yet to make a genuine difference.

And there is Miller, perhaps the most powerful Jew in this administration outside members of the Trump family, defending the policy without a hint of hesitation or misgivings.
“No nation can have the policy that whole classes of people are immune from immigration law or enforcement,” he told The New York Times last week. “It was a simple decision by the administration to have a zero tolerance policy for illegal entry, period. The message is that no one is exempt from immigration law.”

Last year, the Hollywood Reporter tracked down the rabbi of the Santa Monica synagogue where the Miller family were members, even publishing the typically dorky photograph of his confirmation class. “We did our best here to teach Stephen the ethical standards of Judaism,” Rabbi Jeff Marx was quoted as saying, and you could almost hear him sigh.As has been reported, Miller presented himself as a provocateur beginning in high school, an angry political conservative in a sea of California multicultural liberalism, offending other students and the school authorities with glee, and becoming the young darling of right wing talk radio.
His oppositional perspective only hardened at Duke University, where he championed extremist causes and interacted with the white nationalist Richard Spencer. From there he worked on Capitol Hill for Michele Bachmann and John Shadegg in the House, and then Jeff Sessions in the Senate, where he was instrumental in stopping the bipartisan immigration reform which nearly passed in 2013.

Miller has been called “one of the chief architects” behind the executive order, which temporarily banned citizens of seven predominantly Muslim countries and indefinitely banned Syrian refugees from entering the United States. The original executive order also instructed the U.S. to prioritize Christian refugees from the Middle East over their Muslim counterparts and was widely criticized by lawmakers on both sides of the aisle as well as civil rights group such as the American Civil Liberties Union, which said the order discriminated against Muslims. Federal judges blocked the order from being implemented, and Trump issued a second, slightly revised order, which was also blocked.”
Miller has longstanding ties to David Horowitz, whose think tank was labeled a “driving force of the anti-Muslim” movement.
David Horowitz founded the David Horowitz Freedom Center, a right-wing think tank that “combats the efforts of the radical left and its Islamist allies to destroy American values and disarm this country as it attempts to defend itself in a time of terror.” The Southern Poverty Law Center calls Horowitz “a driving force of the anti-Muslim” movement and labels his think tank an anti-Muslim hate group. Miller met Horowitz as a teen and invited the conservative writer to speak at his high school, Politico reported. As a student Duke University, Miller once again invited Horowitz to speak. Horowitz’s defenders say he is pointing out real threats others are ignoring in the name of political correctness and worse.
He also organized a campus group that promoted an “Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week.”
At Duke, Miller worked with Horowitz’ think tank to launch the “Terrorism Awareness Project,” which sought to educate college students about “Islamofascism,” according to CNN.
The David Horowitz Freedom Center (DHFC) created the Terrorism Awareness Project on January 31 [2007] to combat complacency on college campuses about the intentions of the radical Islamists who declared a holy war on the United States and the West as long ago as 1979, and also to reveal the active support the jihad receives from radical professors and student groups who regard America as the Great Satan and the terrorists as freedom fighters. “If one thing was clear in the aftermath of the attack (of 9/11), it was this: the terrorists would be back,” said Stephen Miller, a senior at Duke University and the Project’s national coordinator. “But because of the campaign by the “anti-war” movement, our populace as a whole is ignorant of the threat, doesn’t know the enemy, and is unaware of its true intent, capabilities and resolve. This is especially true of college students who face a daily barrage of anti-war and anti-American propaganda. The Terrorism Awareness Project is designed to make them aware of the threat of jihad and the struggle that lies ahead if this nation is to survive.”

At the end Halper asks “Can you imagine if an American politician said that?” There’s been an excess of commentary about the racist nature of the speech on social media with many wondering how it would fly in this country. Of course all hell would break out in the press if during a U.S. presidential campaign one of the leading candidates warned blacks, or Jews, were flooding to the polls funded by foreign interests and we should all go out and vote to counter them. It would be condemned (even if there is a history of doing just this). But the issue here is that Netanyahu did exactly this in 2015, and in a place like Israel it works. Why is that? And what does it say about the supposed shared values between Israel and the United States?

Together with the eight Members of Knesset of the Jewish Home, the Presidency could field 95 MKs out of 120 to vote the bill down. And yet, it was considered too dangerous to debate.
Just what was so problematic in the bill? The Knesset legal counsel, Eyal Yanon, said it clearly:
“[The bill] contains several articles which are meant to change the character of Israel from the national state of the Jewish People into a state which grants equal status, from the national point of view, to the Jewish nation and the Arab nation.”
That is, the very debate about the bill would have raised troubling questions, proving yet again that a Jewish state and a democratic one cannot co-exist. They’re a contradiction in terms.

Ever since the atrocities of Iraq War I have focused my writings on the Middle East, though not exclusively. The headline is from a Jewish publication The Forward. I use mostly Jewish sources for my information, posts and debate: Mondoweiss, Tikun Olam by Richard Silverstein, the Jerusalem Post, The New York Times, Ynet News, Times of Israel, etc.
There have been diarists @BooMan who wrote exclusively about a single topic: Mattes, shergald, Jeff Huber, RubDMC and Iraq stories.
Netanyahu himself focuses on the Jewishness of the State of Israel, I oppose his meme of no Palestinian state next to Israel and the theft of Palestinian land. The USA has allied itself with Israel and fought wars in the Middle East to create chaos and eliminate governing regimes in neighbouring states. The old colonial powes Great Britain and France have their own preference for coalition with political parties in the Middle East. See the alliance with warmongering Arabian states of the Gulf nations and Lebanon. The proxy wars in Libya and Syria created havoc in the region and caused a stream of refugees heading towards Europe in 2015 and 2016.
The rise of Xenophobia and Islamophoia was encouraged and funded by lobby groups connected to Israel. The hasbara trolls of Israel swarming the universities across America are also funded and supported by the State of Israel, specifically the Office of the Minister President Netanyahu.
It’s a shame none of you with so much criticism fail to write about the state of affairs in the greater Middle East. Only with American lives at stake will you raise your voice? Why am I not surprised with so much knowledge and historical facts lacking, the American people voted an idiot into Office. Keeping you busy I would reckon.

- The reason all this is important is that there are a host of pro-Israel NGOs including Im Tirzu, Shurat HaDin, NGO Monitor, and one they don’t mention, StandWithUs, which purport to be independent watchdogs with no political axe to grind. This stance allows them to make a claim of being dispassionate and disinterested regarding official Israeli government interests. In fact, just as the CIA was found to have secretly funded and co-opted liberal groups in the 1950s, the Israeli government is doing the same now.
