I hate waiting around for results on Election Day and I’ll be live-blogging later on, so here’s a thread to discuss remedies for your anxiety.

I am working as a roving troubleshooter for the Board Of Elections, covering multiple precincts at three locations. I am finding there isn’t time to be anxious, and since I have been up since 4:10 this morning, and the polls don’t close until 7:30, I will be too damn exhausted to sit up for hours biting my fingernails. After canvassing since summer, I am just going to be ready to go to bed and let the morning serve me up whatever is in the cards. Elvis has left the building. There is nothing left to do now but see how the numbers add up.
. . . thanks you.
I thank you.
As do I. Thank you, Mike.
Polling place was busier than I’ve seen it since 2008. Usually it’s pretty dead on off hours, especially in non-presidential years. Not a lot of Republican voters in my district, so I guess we’re helping run up the score in this blue state.
I’ll be turning to Little Feat.

A lil Robert Palmer

And hope for the best.
I wrote about it all day, so I’m going to take a nap. Then I might go for a run?
I’ll watch the returns over some beer later. But first a nap.
Hopefully it won’t be as much beer as 2016
Also dancing at my local honky tonk…
No anxiety.
Just curiosity.
Curiosity and a certain faith in evolution.
I don’t think that Life is finished with us yet.
I’m mostly curious about how it’s going to pull us out of this pickle.
For those of us not really conversant with the great comedy team Oliver and Hardy…you should be. They were always getting themselves into dire trouble, and equally always escaping it by the skin of their teeth. From the late ’20s into the WW II years…arguably the most extended, truly dangerous time period that the U.S. has ever faced…they always managed to bumble through.
So did the U.S.
Now?
Us too, I believe.
Let us pray.

Laurel and Hardy, of course. Outside of “Election Day”… a very stressful day for me.
Shit happens…

My daughter’s birthday is today. 18. Guess where we went and what we did after school? My daughter said voting was the best gift today.
I mentioned it to a poll worker while we waited, and she sang a Stevie Wonder version of Happy Birthday. Smiles all around.
As we exited, I happened to know one of the candidates standing in the soliciting area. As we chatted, I mentioned the birthday and she was very congratulatory. All of the other candidates or their reps nearby likewise were very happy for my daughter.
It’s been a good day so far. Oh, and huge turnout.
My daughter was born the day in Florida on the day before the Florida election debacle. That doesn’t seem so long ago, does it? Republicans have made us and made democracy suffer for so long now that hopefully the turning of a blue tide will restore some normalcy.
Bohemian Rhapsody, 6:30. By the time we get home the data will be starting to flow.
I’m oddly calm about the outcome. Whatever happens is gonna happen. Nothing more to do once we vote. Saving my next nervous breakdown for the lame duck session. That’s where the stuff is gonna hit the fan.
. . . election of our time” seems almost trite, especially after the catastrophe of 2016. (I mean, talk about consequential, right?)
But it isn’t. Now is when we find out whether that turn in 2016 to hard-right, democracy-undermining-seeking-to-cement-permanent-minority-rule, deplorably bigoted fascism gets — in the phrase I saw somewhere today — “ratified or repudiated”. And if it doesn’t get repudiated now, seems hard to imagine how it would/could be, given that the fascists will do everything possible (and never mind whether legal/Constitutional) to lock in their permanent minority rule if not blocked. Which they now have their illegitimate rightwing SCOTUS majority to rubber-stamp for them.
You’d have to be evil and/or a moron (see elsewhere this thread) to escape the grip of anxiety today.
High turnout is the norm at my precinct so I can’t make predictions.
Since election returns start rolling in at about 6:30 am here, I never get to do the watch party thing. Starting the morning off with a double espresso, and then coffee through the rest of the day.
Not going to be a good night. I am already in heavy duty upset land and going to wait to tune in while spouse watches every moment.
