Welcome back, music lovers. It’s been a week, to say the least. I seem to be in a very retrospective mood. Is what it is.
Of the guitarists I’ve been exposed to over the years, Adrian Belew would easily top my list of ones I’d listen to in just about any context, whether as a sideman to any of a number of artists (from Bowie, to Talking Heads, to a stint or two with King Crimson) or as a solo artist. Here is just an early example of what he could accomplish, from a live 1978 gig with David Bowie:
Next week is number 100. I think I want to use that as an excuse to delve into Brian Eno a bit. You might say I am an Eno Prog. 🙂
Today is National Hot Buttered Rum Day, so I’m serving Hot Buttered Rum.
The bartender is taking requests.
Today is National Popcorn Day so I am pouring Buttered Popcorn Infused Rum.
The entire “Discipline” LP is well worth repeated listens. This just happened to be my favorite track on the album. Both Belew and Fripp are in fine form here. I’d gladly see this live any time, anywhere.
“Lone Rhinoceros” was one of those songs that resonated with me in my later teens. Belew’s knack for creating sound effects on the guitar was something to behold, as was the lyrical content of this particular track.
