Mueller suspense.
Impeachment suspense.
Not My President is still in office suspense.
Can’t get the electoral college to do what it was designed to do.
Not sure about that, prevdem. Maybe it’s doing exactly what it was designed to do…help to control the masses when they get uppity.
It’s kind of like the Sorcerer’s Apprentice story.
It “worked” for a while, but then it got out of control.
Working too well to do what it was designed to do.
Result?
In recent years?
G.W. Bush and Donald Trump.
Uh oh!!!
AG
The founders feared a tyrant could manipulate public opinion and come to power, not that the populace would become too “uppity”. Trump was the exact problem the electoral college was designed to prevent. Since it didn’t work in this, the most applicable case, it may be time to abolish it and use the brakes intended in some other way.
I’m open to suggestions.
The founders also feared the masses. That is why they originally limited participation in their “democracy” to white, male and primarily Protestant landowners, and that is also why they erected the Electoral College as a buffer between he voters and the election of a president.
Yes, one of their fears was that of a “tyrant” that could “manipulate public opinion and come to power.” Perhaps their definition of a tyrant was anyone that disagreed with their opinions.
And yes, Trump fits that “tyrant” bill. He will fit it even more if he wins in 2020, because he will aim to become President For Life. Bet on it.
Given the power of corporate money over the media and the media’s power over the minds of the voters, perhaps the idea of a buffer of some sort isn’t so bad. But…in today’s totally monetized world, the members of the Electoral College are also corporate-owned.

HMMMMmmm…!!!
And who controls those legislatures?
Corporate interests.
Catch 22, all over again.
Sigh…

Trump.

among other things
Watching New Zealand immediately act on gun violence less than a week after the massacre.
Georgia’s Senate may pass a bill that will ban abortions after six weeks. (It’s passed the House and gone through the Senate Science Committee.)
Pimples.
I think the question is more “what isn’t my problem?”
Every day is Festivus for me, and I have got a lot of problems with a lot of people (but not with most of you).
Right now my SPECIFIC problem is too much talk, not enough rock and goddamn I miss Lemmy Kilmister.
Took the words right out of my mouth.
Not enough water.
Not enough taxes withheld, so I will soon be writing a check to help fund this lovely government we have. Feels icky.
Student loan debt.
Marijuana prohibition.
Right-wing authoritarian propaganda distributed as news.
The entire world not analyzing everything the same as I do, but I repeat myself.
you want to know what really grinds my gears?
.
contempt of congress is an meaningless phrase. I have nothing but contempt for congress.
A family member with a substance abuse problem who has lost everything. Trying to keep her from killing herself. It is consuming our lives.
Anyone who still has the love of their family and friends has not lost everything – but getting them to see that is not easy. My older brother is a meth addict, and the pain it has caused to all the people who love him has been heartbreaking. I wish you all the best.
Lost a cat and a dog unexpectedly in the last week and now the remaining dog won’t eat…basement flooded, well went out, and when the plumbers came one had just undergone back surgery and the other leg surgery and neither could lift so I had to pull out the entire 90-foot well string and pump by myself.
Wow, you have my full sympathy and best wishes for a better day, week, and year ahead.
I’m not young and I’d like to live long enough to see my country back on track to being a country I can be proud of, where normal, decent people don’t live in fear.
I probably won’t.
I’m not young either, but I hope/believe we both live to see a return to decency and integrity in all aspects of American society. Perhaps the marker today was the recognition accorded to President Jimmy Carter’s becoming the longest lived President ever, beating George H. W. Bush’s long lived life by one day. What a shining example for all of us. In a bit from a Chris Mathews he opined that he has been able to forgive all his political enemies.
I should have written “in a bit from a Chris Mathews interview , Carter opined that he has been able to forgive his former political enemies.”
That within a dozen years human civilization may be doomed to extinction, and we’re still listening to insane morons in positions of authority arguing that “global warming is 75 years away.”
They don’t care that their children will die in a global warming desert as food production collapses and pandemics strike amid thermonuclear war. “Drill baby drill!”
I’ve got two:
#1-The impending environmental collapse.
12 years?
20 years?
50 years?
Whenever.
We’re goners if we don’t wake the fuck up. Quickly!!!
and
#2-Corporate/Big Money-induced, massive corruption and control of both major parties, the scientific establishment, the educational establishment and the media.
You cannot solve…or even begin to lead to solve…#1 without first fixing #2.
Support for any politician that I even suspect to be beholden to…and thus under the control of…Big Money is out of the question as far as I am concrned.

That the same people who told us not to believe everything we read while we were growing up now believe everything they read on social media and see on Fox News.
Speaking of, new polling on this:

Wow. That’s a really well put together graphic.
People who think politics is either a god damn sport
or
People who think politics is not their cup of tea.
All of us need to be involved! That’s my problem.
Among other environmental disasters my generation has created or made worse is that we are killing off the insects, very rapidly it turns out. Now I’m pondering what comes first, my own demise from natural causes, world war III, or starvation as a result of the collapse of the food chain. Not looking forward to funding out.
People paying attention presidential campaigns, pelosi and congressional dems demobilizing the base showing theyve learned nothing. A time of great personal chaos and change that has already removed several hopes I had all because I was stupid and weak enough to agree to have a child.
Guns. We must always have more guns. More guns that can discharge more bullets per second. They are definitely the penis substitute for men in the United States. And the gun porn. How many movies and television shows glorify guns and manly-men shooting those guns? You can’t begin to count them.
