Hello again painting fans.
This week I will be continuing with the painting the Grand Canyon. The photo that I’m using (mine) is seen directly below. I’ll be using my usual acrylic paints on a 6×6 inch canvas.
When last seen the painting appeared as it does in the photo seen directly below.
Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.
I’m in the process of figuring which colors work best with the various elements. I’m going with a darker brown color for the buttes, some of which is seen in the photo. The more distant rocks will have a lighter version of the same brown. Ochre highlights will be set off nicely.
The current state of the painting is seen in the photo directly below.
I’ll have more progress to show you next week. See you then.
Earlier paintings in this series can be seen here.

It makes me want to go hang gliding.
Finn finished off his soccer and baseball seasons today. The soccer season ended in a 1-1 tie but the baseball finale will be more memorable. He came in to pitch in the last inning and walked his classmate and biggest rival. But he was erased on a force play at second base. Then he struck out the next two batters to end the game and secure his team’s championship for having the highest winning percentage. They don’t do playoffs until they’re 10.
He has been walking on air ever since that last swing and miss!
I’ll be making a bit of a desert drive later on in the month. Won’t quite get to the Grand Canyon, but I do always cross the Great Divide. Really one year should just pull onto the exit and get a photo of the family standing on the Continental Divide. I know. Probably corny.
