Hi music lovers!
Another midweek, another cafe/lounge. Let’s check out an indie artist and occasional actress Sharon Van Etten. In addition to a number of recordings, she appeared in a few episodes of the recently cancelled The OA on Netflix.
And here’s her cover of a Flaming Lips tune:
The bar is always open as is the jukebox. Pull up a chair and stay a while.
Cheers!
New week, new lounge. Here’s another gig led by Sharon Van Etten.

Sticking with the singer-songwriter vibe for a bit, here’s one I probably have posted over at the original frog pond. The artist goes by Cat Power. This track was played during a pivotal scene in V for Vendetta:

“The bar is always open” — yes, it is!
I am resuming a theme that I started in June and took a break from during July, drinks dedicated to the Democratic candidates. I begin with a farewell toast to Eric Swalwell, whose favorite comfort food is coffee, preferably mocha, so here is Morning Coffee from Tipsy Bartender.

More like evening coffee! I suppose it is always morning (or evening) somewhere!
Now a farewell toast to Mike Gravel, the Duck Fart, the unofficial cocktail of Alaska.

One of my favorite things to do for a while was to ask folks to identify the oldest candidate running for the Democratic nomination. Most people tend to think of Biden, because he not that far away from 80 and because he is very visible as a front runner. Mike Gravel is 89. Of course Gravel was a young whippersnapper about Biden’s age when he ran in the primaries the last time in 2008.
Andrew Yang stopped by Tipsy Bartender, who mixed him a special drink inspired by “Game of Thrones” and chatted with him for half an hour about robot bartenders and other examples of automation taking jobs.

Interesting segment. Yang should have at least one more chance to make an impact during the debates. In the meantime, we can contemplate what robot bartenders will be like:

LOL. That’s the fantasy. Here’s the reality.

Haha. Yeah. I’ll stick to human bartenders for as long as they last. Thankfully there’s always a dive bar somewhere.
New foto flog going up at midnight. Of course y’all can still comment on this cafe/lounge at any time while the foto flog and painting palooza are in progress the next couple days. Cheers!
Here’s a track that holds up even three decades later (and if we include VU, a song that holds up five decades later):

Here is a live version by VU (a good deal different from the version that appeared on Loaded):

Back to Sharon Van Etten for a moment longer. You might have noticed that one of the songs she’s been performing live lately is called Comeback Kid. This is the official promo vid. It’s only a slightly different vibe between the studio and live versions. Either one has a very early to mid 1980s post-punk/synthpop vibe filtered through the sensibilities of a singer-songwriter facing 21st century realities:

This is the song Kim Carnes is likely best-known for – and yet it’s a cover. Seemed to fit the start of the 1980s quite well:

In memory of the recent anniversary of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings, along with the cold conflicts (for now) between various nuclear powers that continue to this day, here is a track from Pink Floyd’s last LP w/Roger Waters:

I will keep this one running til we get closer to Weds, and then will program the next cafe. In the meantime, still here.
