Hello again painting fans.

This week I will be continuing with the Grand Canyon painting. The photo that I’m using (My own from a recent visit just a few weeks ago.) is seen directly below. I stood a this particular viewpoint and thought about how I would paint this scene, cropping the much wider original to the photo you see here.


I’ll be using my usual acrylic paints on a 6×6 inch canvas.

When last seen the painting appears as it does in the photo seen directly below.

Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.

There are lots of changes for this week’s cycle. Starting at the top, the sky has been completely overpainted with clouds similar to those seen in the original photo. Below, the central butte has lit and shadowed areas spilling down into the depression below. To the sides the more distant features provide context and depth. It’s almost done.

The current state of the painting is seen in the photo directly below.
