Veterans Day greetings to all my fellow vets! (I served in the first Gulf War as a member of the U.S. Air Force.)
Here’s hoping for the day when there are no more wars.

Thank you for your service to our country. I know that Gulf War I is less and less popular these days, but at least it was a war supported and paid for with the help of a real coalition of a large number of nations and it
was done with U.N. approval.
Whatever the prevarication du jour is about the reasons for the current war, it is certainly about “coroners” and death and destruction for its own sake.
Your service now – your work published here and at your website – is also commendable, and necessary. Thanks for your continuing incisive commentary.
Thank you for your kind words.
You mentioned service to country. Not taking anything away from veterans, but I wish that our country gave more recognition to the many civilians who have served and still serve our country with distinction and sometimes even heroism. Liberty isn’t just defended by the Armed Forces and some people seem to forget that. How many civil rights activists gave their lives to end segregation and discrimination?
Lots of people enlist to get money for college. We need other avenues they can pursue. Groups like the Peace Corps could be expanded. Probably the best way to spread democracy is by helping set up schools and make sure people have enough to eat. Leading by example.
Less stick, more carrot. Lots more.
