Yeah, I can see the “Jack”. Although, being green, they’re a bit harder to spot. And, they’re only about six inches tall.
Tell me about it. I grew up with Northern hemisphere seasons, so the months are all off for me. And Christmas in the middle of Summer is totally wrong.
Right now everything is greening up with a vengeance. We’re finally getting some sun to follow all that rain.
I’m jealous of your orchids. We have some wild orchids that are native to Indiana but they don’t seem to like our woods much. I’ve only found a couple in all the years we’ve lived here.
It wasn’t so bad while I was up, but it isn’t much fun now. At least I get to leave a little early today for a doctor’s appointment. Who knew going to the pulmonologist could be so appealing?
Heh, the first one WAS really cute, but he’s 15 years older now…getting out of work and breathing normally again was the part I was looking forward to. 🙂
The iris have been in for about 3 or 4 years now and this is the first time the purple one bloomed. I didn’t realize they would bloom both early and late summer. The hibiscus we’ve had since it was a sprout. Its a tender one and has to come in for the winter.
I am embarking on a four hour drive and I feel like crap. I’ll ponder my dirty mind when I can’t get NPR on the radio anymore, somewhere west of Greensboro.
I always asked for and got banana cake (with no icky icing) for my birthday. But most people don’t have the anti-sweet tooth that I have so I wouldn’t think that would be a popular choice.
I have had a request for carrot cake (albeit with a new recipe)…I really wanted to make a marbled lemon-blueberry cake with lemon French buttercream frosting, though. Too bad this is the last family birthday this year.
Good morning!
No, it’s coming. On our walk in Central Park yesterday we noticed a few trees that were slightly changing their color.
No where near as pretty as the one you caught, though!
We’ve got a few trees starting to change — mostly dogwoods — but none that have gone the full route like that tree. I’ve looked at some old pictures and it’s never changed this early before and we normally wouldn’t see any color like that until at least mid-October.
For a short week, this has seemed pretty long. How about you?
Our second species to come up this Spring. Looks like it will be a good year for orchids.
Wow. It reminds me of a jack in the pulpit for some reason.
It always seems funny to think that you’re heading into summer just as we’re finally cooling off here.

You’re up very early. Or did you not get to sleep?
I fell asleep at nine, woke up around 2:30, fell back to sleep around 4:00. So I spent some time catching up on my blog reading.
A bit sleepy now, though.
You poor thing. I hate long stretches of wakefulness in the middle of the night.
Be careful driving to work.
It wasn’t so bad while I was up, but it isn’t much fun now. At least I get to leave a little early today for a doctor’s appointment. Who knew going to the pulmonologist could be so appealing?
Well not me … but perhaps what I don’t know is that pulmonology is a field that attracts cuties. 😉
Heh, the first one WAS really cute, but he’s 15 years older now…getting out of work and breathing normally again was the part I was looking forward to. 🙂
Well I can see where breathing normally would be very attractive. The getting out of work by going to a doctor’s office, not so much.
Either way, hope being a sleepy head doesn’t mess up your day.
Dogs are telling me that it’s time to get going. See ya.
Good luck at the doc. And then try and get some sleep!
Some late summer surprises.
Ooh, pretty!

They’re gorgeous, ID.
I’m hoping to squeak in a blooming canna before the frost hits (they were donated bulbs late in the season).
I bought 5 bulbs and 2 survived. Guess it was worth it anyway. Maybe I’ll try again when I feel like digging up some more yard;-)
Most of our bulbs seem to have died. I can’t even remember all the kinds we had.
Wow, those are gorgeous. I especially like the hibiscus with its lovely soft color and interesting folds.
More flower porn from Andi. 🙂
Hey my comment was innocent. You’re the one with the dirty mind. 😛
I am embarking on a four hour drive and I feel like crap. I’ll ponder my dirty mind when I can’t get NPR on the radio anymore, somewhere west of Greensboro.
I saw you’re going to Asheville so at least you’ll be feeling bad somewhere good. And I hope the feeling bad goes away soon. Drive carefully.
Have a safe drive, and I’m sure a soak in the hot tub will do wonders for how you feel.
NPR deprived areas are why podcasts were invented.
Yeah, I’m still the only one on earth without an iPod.
I hope your drive was okay and that you’re feeling better. Or at the very least that you’re feeling well enough to enjoy your pleasant surroundings.
Absolutely seconded!
No, darlin’, you’re not.
lol…of course I didn’t mean ON EARTH….just the only one in my house. 🙂
I saw your neat geodesic screen house in the FFF. Wow, how cool! I’m so impressed with people who know how to build things.
Well you built four “things” and they’re all still standing so clearly you’re pretty good at it, too. 🙂
Ryan seems to be testing the quality of the construction. 🙂
Oh God, don’t even say it. I’m always afraid of what’s next with that one.
I’d say she’s tested and proven the quality of your workwomanship. 😉
That’s right!
Encouragement is a great help — especially when extra hands are absent.
🙂
Do hope you’re feeling better, having a good day & enjoying some NPR. (Asheville affiliate is, I believe, WCQS.)
So, we have a big birthday coming up here next week…any cake suggestions? 🙂
Oh, and did I mention that CBtE had his first day of school today, and he’s excited about being captain of the cross country team?
The joy of going to a small school: you can be a big fish. 🙂
Chocolate cake with chocolate frosting and raspberry filling.
What else?
I always asked my mom for a spice cake with mocha icing. She always came through.
German chocolate cake. Mmmmm.
Ooh, that used to be my favorite. But I think chocolate cake has been nixed.
I always asked for and got banana cake (with no icky icing) for my birthday. But most people don’t have the anti-sweet tooth that I have so I wouldn’t think that would be a popular choice.
What cake are you making?
Good morning!
Riddle: I’ll say as Genesis did on the first song of disc 2 of The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway.
Maybe the reference is a bit obscure; the song title is “Back in New York City”.
Well it would be for me, even if I hadn’t just come back to the cafe.
But I’m very happy that you’re safely back home.
The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway
And I was wrong, the song is the first on side two of vinyl double album.
I have had a request for carrot cake (albeit with a new recipe)…I really wanted to make a marbled lemon-blueberry cake with lemon French buttercream frosting, though. Too bad this is the last family birthday this year.
What are you up to this morning?
Ya gotta post a photo.
Ok. The big birthday is on Friday (4-0).
Hey, 40 is piece of carrot cake. Plus he’s got at least 10 years before the AARP starts inundating him with junk mail. 🙂
Yeah, tell me about it…those bastards!
I really can’t stand that organization but at least I have the pleasure of throwing out all their crap unopened.
you guys should check these options out: reducing junk mail it’s surprisingly effective, in my experience.
l get very little, and it’s generally local stuff. keeps my recycle bins a lot lighter.
Thanks for the link, dada.
Sadly, 40 is but a distant memory. < sigh >
If you can remember your 40s …
What was I saying.
or just a bad sense of time?
