It’s remarkable, amusing and pretty groovy to contemplate a ’70’s sitcom about the challenges for inner-city black high school students handing over much of a show’s broadcast time to a live performance by the Doobies (and a major scripted piece for the whole band as well). There are some modern show biz parallels, but not many.
Of course, the motivation for ABC was the ability to get that anti-music piracy message in there. Synergy!
Let’s try something a bit different. I am kind of fascinated by this guy’s abilities – he just uses his own digitally processed voice as all of the instruments.
Every since Mark Steyn dissed hip-hop and its connection to the black identity I’ve felt the need to defend it. I don’t have to or need to. I just feel compelled to.
Thanks for the Doobie vids. But I’m starting a somewhat regular post of hip-hop videos I think are worth your time. For people who no longer feel compelled to search for good rap music and also for those looking to explore. If hip-hop is not your thing, feel free to ignore.
First up. 9th Wonder feat. Terrance Martin and Phonte. 9th Wonder actually teaches a college course at NC A&T based on hip-hop history. Quite the talented guy.
