Barack Obama now has enough delegates that he is assured of reaching the Magic Number when the polls close tonight, even if he loses badly in each state. We have our nominee!!

And now the hard work begins …
Anyone who doubts that this party will be unified, check back in a month. Once the Republicans get nasty (and it will happen fast) we’ll all remember why we’re Democrats.
You said it.
But this is the kind of hard work I think we can all enjoy, because now we can see that not only is the light at the end of the tunnel, it turns out it isn’t an oncoming train after all.
The GOP is already sending out an ad of Hillary slamming Obama.
No matter what:
I know we can make it.
I know darn well we can work it out.
Oh, yes we can, I know we can can
Yes, we can can, why can’t you,
If we want it, yes we can can.
that’s awesome and appropriate.
I’m happy yet drained- like the fellow at the end of the Shawshank Redemption.
I hear you.
My unsolicited advice to everyone : Get some rest. Don’t read the news for at least a couple of weeks. Go outside. Spend some extra time with your kids (if you have them) or friends and family. Fly a kite or plant a tree.
excellent advice ej…l’m taking an 8 week photography and photoshop workshop/course that starts tomorrow evening.
l’m really looking forward to some drama-free time.
Awesome dada. Have fun with it! Maybe we’ll have to kick-start another FotoFair later this year.
let’s get obama elected first….k? :{)
But of course 🙂
Maybe we’ll have to kick-start another FotoFair later this year.
An egg-cellent idea.
Last year was the first time I missed it! 🙁
l’ll second that, and l admit obama was not my first, or second choice…as in gore, edwards.
but damn! this feels good.
we all need a vacation, then on to the hard work ahead.
Tonight we can party like it’s 2008!
Tomorrow we’ll see. Iraq will still be there.
This morning Mike Barnacle compared this to the last day of school. We have been slogging away for months, and finally the primaries are all over.
Over at seesmic most of the posters are so thrilled that it’s over AND that Obama won the nomination. The giddiness levels in the videos are contagious.
The Chimp averred today that the Iraq invasion is a ‘great war’ and that we will be there for 40 more years. My joy at Obama’s victory (and it is genuine) is offset by the perpetual pain in my gut that comes from our country having been irreparably stained by the current occupancy of the Presidency. It just won’t go away.
Quick! Someone get BooMan a salt shaker so he can toss it over his left shoulder!
I can’t do the fireworks thing until it’s official. The giant pill bugs continue to haunt my dreams.
LOL but I feel the same way. Still, it sure seems like a done deal. I’ll celebrate in a few hours, and maybe about more than Obama – will tell later.
What, do you have money on the SD primary? 🙂
Oh, those giant pill bugs are nowhere to be seen. Tonight belongs to Obama.
HURRAH!!! YIPPEEE!!! Next up…go sic McMore!!! HURRAH!!!!
Well, we haven’t seen this guy in awhile.
It’s a beautiful day.
(sung to the Mr. Rogers theme song)
It’s a beautiful day in the blogosphere,
‘Cause we’ve all got the news that we want to hear —
Obama’s in,
He’s going to win,
He’s got the nomination!!
Soon he’ll be
In the presidency,
Won’t you be elated!
Omir, you never cease to amaze. Good one!
Heh. Thank you. Just wait a day or two until I get a chance to post my Bo Diddley tribute.
OK, so now I’m hearing U2.
But yeah…it’s beautiful. And I’m just so damned happy.
I just can’t believe it.
It turns out that it’s his entry music to his speech. Who knew? 🙂
PARTY TIME
Thanks for all you do Booman!
to yell at the TV) for the past 5 months. I’ll be holding it until November. A slight breath may disturb what’s going on right now.
Never thought I’d see an African-American come this close in my lifetime (at least not on the Dem side – thought Powell might have a chance).
I hear ya.
Well done, junior senator from Illinois! Well done!
Believe it or not, but it’s finally dawning on me that I never, ever thought I’d see the first African-American nominee of a major political party nominated in my lifetime, either.
I’m in my 30s. But I just never thought it would happen. I mean, odds are that most people who run for the presidency will not make it.
And I didn’t even resign myself to the notion–it was just fact. The sun rises and sets, and of all the things that I would likely not live to see, a Black person in this position would make the list. And well–that is that. It is neither here, nor there.
But now…today…oh, my God!
I have nieces and a nephew…oh my God, I love those children so much! And for them to grow up seeing this–I have no words. OK, so the nephew is a little young right now. But not the nieces. They will know and see and remember.
I am so proud.
As I’ve said so many times on this blog, my parents are from Birmingham. They came of age in the 50s and 60s. They knew segregation WELL. They couldn’t go to parks. Couldn’t ride the school buses. Obviously, they knew what was up at the water fountains. And this moment…it’s just so overwhelming.
I am a bit emotional right now. I’ll be better tomorrow. Clear-eyed, ready to go to work. Knowing what a climb it will be to win on Election Day.
But right now, in this moment…I just want to soak it up. There is someone who is smart and has vision and matches my ideology.
And he looks like me.
enjoy it. that it was so difficult just makes it sweeter.
Weird, huh? I posted at seesmic about it earlier today.
Yeah.
And I’m a white boy from Mississippi, so I feel like there’s a little bit of a corner turned here for me, too.
This is just really great. And good. There’s a goodness, a rightness to this. I’m glad I was around for it.
That’s the other thing. I’ve had to check my assumptions, my cynicism…all of it.
I know that the world can be a hard, cold place. I know all the -isms are real.
But there are other people who are just real, and who just want the best for themselves, and each other.
Even though I’ve been disappointed in some people that I once held in high regard, I have met some GREAT people along the way. People who are kind and generous and inspired by this campaign. And they are the rainbow.
Cheers!
A great day for America. A great day for the world.
Cool, Obama will accept the nomination on the anniversary of the “I have a dream” speech by MLK

synchronicity…karma…fate…whatever one chooses to call it
“the moral arc of the universe is long, but bends toward freedom and justice for all”
Some talking head is on Hardball saying what a great VP pick Clnton would be. Tweety asked if Clinton would be able to follow orders from Obama implicitly, and this talking head said, “Oh, of course she would, I’m sure you would agree she’s very disciplined.”
Is this the same Clinton whose campaign we’ve been watching since Super Tuesday?
Tweety’s off his rocker. He’s just trying to keep the Clinton speculation going. Tonight belongs to Obama. It’s his night.
All of this is ruined, of course, if Obama caves and Hillary slithers onto the ticket. -Poulos
The rightwing knuckleheads are salivating over a “shoe to drop” moment, revealed tomorrow. So they believe.
Oh well.
Time is on Obama’s side to drag is feet on the vp talk.
1) Hill may mind her manners for the next few weeks if she’s in the vp race & 2) it gives separation time to get her off the screen and allows just Obama and McCain on stage.
Good stuff.
Harold fucking Ford just spent almost 10 minutes defending Obama against Chris Matthews.
Yeah, I saw that, too. ‘Bout time he cut the shit.
ford thinks he can save his career by changing course…he’s, l hope, very wrong.
he’s irrelevant now…not that he hasn’t been for a long time. the gravy train done run off the rails harold.
Just letting everyone know. I’m now available for Vice President.
I’ll second your nomination.
his speech is terrific
Let the vetting commence!
Seriously? It’s on the green backdrop behind Jindal right now on MSNBC:
A Leader We Can Believe In
Did he really just take Change We Can Believe In and alter it slightly? And don’t even get me started on the green background – like that’s going to fool anyone…
Or as my husband just said, “A Leader Bean We Can Believe In.”
Mmmm…leader bean…
the lobbyist leader.
a video post.
BWHAHAHAHAHAHA
That was a lot of old white people in that group. Damn. This is going to be cake. Not that I’m knocking large groups of old white people, there’s a reason I love Vegas, but damn. Image people, image!!!
did mccain just say that he did in fact, have a black baby?
In fact, McCain has an adopted black daughter, a fact that the Bushies used in South Carolina in 2000.
she’s from bangladesh
Interesting. Had not had that information before. So McCain is just playing the same skin game that the Bushies played. Just trying to turn it to his advantage.
Poppy Bush called grandson George “the litte brown one”. McCain will soon be calling his daughter “the chocolate one”
Oh. How many bigots who supported Hillary will not support McCain to prevent his daughter from darkening the door of their White House?
in his speech he said that people say things that aren’t true to make it an earworm, then he proceeded to do the same exact thing.
Callooh! Callay!
Woohoo!
As the song on You Tube has it, “Viva O’Bama.” Fine job Mr. O’Bama. Now for the big one.
Happy Dance!
Awesome!
For some strange reason, ever since I was a kid, I’ve always had the urge to sing Tigger’s Song from Winnie the Pooh to myself whenever I’m really happy. Extremely weird, that…
Now the real work begins. Let’s beat McCain.

I didn’t find out until after I got on the bus to go home that my granddaughter has a band concert tonight, Family comes first at our house, so here I am.
I guess I get to see the speeches on YouTube. 🙂
Damn right! Family first, always. What instrument does she play? I hope she played her heart out!
She plays the trombone. She’s not all that good (yet), but she enjoys it and is getting better. I was just discussing with Mrs. Omir the possibility of keeping the rental trombone over the summer, since she wants to continue on next year.
Her band teacher is a hoot. They play stuff like “Louie, Louie” and “Tequila.” (Well of course they play Louie Louie, it is after all the state song of Washington. 🙂 ) Sometimes I’ll practice with her, banging out a few simple chords on the banjo while she plays her part for “Tequila,” except that when it gets to the part where you’re supposed to shout “Tequila!” we’ll throw out nonsense phrases like “I like pie” or “Trombones rule!”, or I’ll bark like a dog. We have a great time.
Frankly I’m happy that she’s gotten to the age she is without determining that Grandpa is a complete dork and she doesn’t want anything to do with him.
well from a Jerry Reed song::
were eastbound and down loading up and truckin were going to do what they can’t be done….
they say can’t be done
I do not understand mrs clinton’s attitude thinking that she has earned the right to be vp for Obama! Have you seen the size of the crowds that show up for him???!!! I am watching one Right now and he can bet her or mccain on his very own! Yea for him and for sticking to his guns for the big fight….All of you ahve great posts here and I simply have nothing else to say but you all are so great!
