Hemp bill re-introduction in House

Texas Republican Ron Paul will be re-introducing his Industrial Hemp Farming Act later this week.

The wording is the same as last year’s bill HR 3037, just replacing “2005” with “2007” in the bill title.

Please contact your Representative, urging them to co-sponsor. Last year 12 Dems (and no other Republicans) signed on.

The bill would change the Federal definition of marijuana to exclude low THC plants, and allow States to set up licensing schemes for Hemp farmers.

At present, it’s legal to import products made from hemp, but US farmers are prevented from producing it here.

General Motors is the largest importer of Canadian Hemp fiber, using it for trunk liners and dashboard components. It’s also used in textiles. The seed is used in food products and soap and cosmetics. The paper industry’s likely the biggest potential customer for a revived hemp industry.

My favorite collection of online resources on hemp is Dr. Dave’s Hemp Archives.
