“Let me assure you of one thing: the United States under this administration will never- never– let terrorism or fear of terrorism determine its foreign policy.” – Vice-President George H.W. Bush, on the campaign trail 10/27/84, just ten days before his re-election.
For a long time that quote was mainly of interest as one of many promises Bush made not to negotiate with terrorists prior to his running an off the books program through The Enterprise to sell arms to Iran as ransom for hostages and then to illegally divert the profits to the Contras. But, in light of his son’s foreign policy, which is expressly dictated by terrorism and fear of terrorism, I find it richly ironic.
.
It started out as a comment but turned out to be a diary …
In 2000, George W. Bush said he would restore dignity and honor to the oval office and give us an administration that we could be proud of.
"But I will not let myself be reduced to silence."
It’s also ironic if you consider that when he was director of the CIA, the Agenciy used Newsweek to plant false information regarding the Embassy Row bombing in 1976 which allowed those responsible to flee the country.
And it’s even more ironic if you consider that it was him who allowed Orlando Bosch to stay in this country after the cuban blew up a plane going to Cuba.
