She’s on the shelf we built for her, over the frig, to keep her off of the counters. Ordinarily she’s very sleek, but at food time, she manages to look frowzy, suck her sides in, and look neglected.
You’ve nailed it – and it doesn’t capture the voice, either. The final step – which I didn’t photograph, is to put both front paws over the door so we can’t open it without removing her, (ie. letting her step off on our shoulder) in order to open the door. If you try to put her down, she becomes the velcro cat and will not let go.
The photos from the march yesterday are great to see, here and elsewhere. I’m glad we had some of the usual suspects there – and nice to see Bro. Feldspar appearing.
I’ve never tried to do that — I’m not sure where I’d have to stand to be able to be reflected and get the shot — but that would definitely be something to try with a tripod.
Jim and I were just discussing the mechanics of such a shot. My thinking was that I can’t stand close enough to get a macro shot and be in it and Jim agrees — he thinks someone else would have to take the picture. Also, depending on the light, sometimes the water drop shots are reflections and sometimes they are a reverse telescope view of what’s behind the drop (I don’t remember which this shot was).
Good morning all! We’re still in DC, waking up after an evening at the real-life Froggy Bottom Lounge…going to do a museum or 2 before we head home later.
Now if only ejmw and supersoling were up. Should I be evil and call and wake them? 🙂
I’m going to stay in and keep organizing all my “stuff” from various personal projects. All summer and fall I would think –I’ll get around to that on a cold winter day when I’m stuck inside. That cold winter day has come. I’ll be hole punching and putting stuff in binders.
How about you? You’ve already walked. Any other reason to leave the warm, toasty house?
always strive to extend your reach. And getting a 7 megapixel camera (whatever that is) is certainly GOOD. But striving to play a piano better and buying a grand — may make you a great pianist. But it doesn’t make you Mozart. Olivia is Mozart. 🙂
Is there any reason why I can’t hook my printer up to my laptop? I’ve never done it before, but I don’t see that it would be a problem. I want my binder labels to look nice.
No reason assuming that you have a port available (I’m guessing it is either a USB or parallel connection). Just follow the same installation instructions you did for your desktop system.
Oh and I had no idea I was neither Olivia nor Mozart so I’m really delighted to have that cleared up. 😛
and I love your pictures. But I’m not telling you anything when I say that Olivia is a step beyond anyone else I’ve ever known who takes pictures. (And I always seem to know people who love to take pictures.)
It wasn’t meant badly. Please don’t take it that way.
it’s me, not you. The part of my brain that contains social skills has been on the fritz for a number of weeks. So I can’t tell if I’ve insulted people or they’re kidding. 🙂
My printer does work !!! — and when I looked for my installation disk I found some things I forgot I had. So now, to surround myself with paper. Picture me sitting on the floor surrounded by paper with my hole punch. And my laptop sitting eye level on a chair so that I won’t be so bored punching holes 🙂
is to throw them away as you go. Cleaning out the hole punch makes it more efficient. (Can you tell I have a sister who spent most of her life in the manufacture and sales of office products and LOVED to talk about them? On the other hand, she got me a really nice hole punch.)
The phrase “the bee’s knees”,
meaning “the height of excellence”, became popular in the U.S. in
the 1920s, along with “the cat’s whiskers” (possibly from the use
of these in radio crystal sets), “the cat’s pajamas” (pyjamas were
still new enough to be daring), and similar phrases which made less
sense and didn’t endure: “the eel’s ankle”, “the elephant’s
instep”, “the snake’s hip”.
The actual limb and dew drop is only slightly grainy — I think those colours are difficult to capture sharply. With 7 mps you should be able to get really sharp details — like your bee macro … that was really sharp, so that’s why I’m wondering if it’s d/t the light and colours.
Yeah, especially when you don’t use a tripod. I’ve thought about getting one of those gorillapods but I figure it’s pointless because I’ll never want to schlep it with me.
You should get one! There are really light ones … Just think of the wonders you could capture and delight us w/ then!
I’ve got a little one that when folded up is about 12″ … the legs pull out to about 4ft or so but w/ the legs fully extended it’s not very stable (it’s a cheap tripod). I mostly use it in the 12″ position. But they are very useful.
most ppl do too … they really hate it when I’m around w/ the camera … and on that note, I’m going downtown to check out the canal … they’ve opened some of it for skating, and it’s a beautiful blue sky day … perfect for pix.
the difference between being in the country and being in the city. When I was a child we used to be able to skate on the pond at the local park about a mile from here but I haven’t seen anybody skating on it in years — there are usually signs up warning that it isn’t frozen enough and I believe them, it doesn’t look like the ice is that thick. I bet the ponds outside the city are frozen though.
she knows better than to chase wildlife…is verboten.
she will however, chase rabbits and prairie dogs occasionally, but she’s pretty well trained in that regard because there’s so much of it about…esp dangerous habit re: raccoons too….they’re vicious when cornered.
That webcam is really cool. So is it looking in the direction that you live?
Your sky is very blue today. Ours is starting to get blue, the flurries have stopped. But it’s still windy. This morning it made me wish for the good old days when the service station attendent pumped the gas while I sat in the nice warm car.
But I wouldn’t ask you to go on the roof anyway because I wouldn’t want to be watching on the webcam and see you fall off. I’d have to call 911 out there and try to describe you and where you live .. without any details. It would be ugly.
really slams my processor tho…chews up a lot of power/bandwidth…maybe I’m not set up quite right yet…still playing w/ it and thinking that going to Tiger might be a good idea…need to ? w/ apple site and see if this G3 can handle it
Howdy Folks!!!! Great Picture Andie!!!! I also love the deer and cat pictures. Looks like the housing problem might not be as big a problem as I thought. Turns out there is a leasing agent in one of the groups I belong to and he has sent me a list of places in my price range. I will have to quickly look at a few and then get my ass in gear and get moved. LOL
I wish you were too. I have moved a lot in my life and absolutely hate it. I still have the moving boxes from when I moved to Texas as I have learned never to throw them away. LOL
No skating … I wasn’t sure how much was open and didn’t want to carry both my skates and my camera ;). Turns out that it wasn’t a very big section and it was so crowded that I’m not sure you could call it skating …
I’ve got some pix … just getting them on the computer now … if any turn out, I’ll pop them in a cafe.
Thanks MaryB. It will also be great not having to deal with a roommate situations. As big a people person as I am, I do have difficulty with roommates.
That’s a stunning water drop.
Did it get cold in Detroit? It went from 45 to 15 here.
Yes, but not that extreme. It’s about 22 now; not sure what it was last night, but it felt to be in the 40’s. Warm enough to make our snow look icky.
That`s a nice diamond necklace, & definitely not a “blood diamond”.
I always check for your morning surprise. I`m surprised!!
G66d 06rn5ng!
Can’t ta32..
(That’s my first and last attempt to write your language). Have you lost your voice?
Hey, 2s.
S6 t6 s*ea2…
is a strong hint from the fates that you should be spending much more time with curly.
Hah!
Head5ng there 3ater t6day.
She’s on the shelf we built for her, over the frig, to keep her off of the counters. Ordinarily she’s very sleek, but at food time, she manages to look frowzy, suck her sides in, and look neglected.
next comes the wheedle
and then the all out begging
but the third one looks more threatening than begging to me.
You’ve nailed it – and it doesn’t capture the voice, either. made me go get myself some breakfast.
She’s a beauty. A very high perch so she can surveil her domain. I like the second pic the most … 🙂
The photos from the march yesterday are great to see, here and elsewhere. I’m glad we had some of the usual suspects there – and nice to see Bro. Feldspar appearing.
Good morning Andi, Kidspeak, ask! Nice work on the water drop, Andi. The reflection in it is intriguing.
I like the water droplets that reflect the woods. Someday I’ll have to take a tripod with me so I can get a really sharp focus.
This one is sharp enough to look like a jewel. (I did try to see if you were reflected in the drop, Andi.)
I’ve never tried to do that — I’m not sure where I’d have to stand to be able to be reflected and get the shot — but that would definitely be something to try with a tripod.
Yes, I expected a teeny AndiF to be in there too.

Yes!
Ha. I called him, and he was already up and at the Vietnam memorial. Guess, we’re the slackers then…
Slacking is a good thing.
Good morning everyone.
I hope everyone is fine today.
Brrrrr. It’s 12 degrees here and windy. And snow flurrying. But the sun is trying to peep through.
I had to wear longjohns on the walk.
Got any plans for the day or are you going to spend it testing out which one of your blankets is the toastiest?
sounds so good.
I’m going to stay in and keep organizing all my “stuff” from various personal projects. All summer and fall I would think –I’ll get around to that on a cold winter day when I’m stuck inside. That cold winter day has come. I’ll be hole punching and putting stuff in binders.

Great, GREAT, picture BTW.
I spent most of yesterday running around so I’m more than happy to stay open. Other than laundry, though, I have no plans to be productive.
Thanks on the picture, though I’m a bit disappointed in it — I want it to have the tight focus that olivia’s images all have.
to set the bar high — but if I were you I wouldn’t set the bar as high as Olivia.
I think it’s beautiful.
Any word on Hopeful yet?
No, it takes several days to get anything back from the lab.
A woman’s reach should exceed her photo skills or what’s a 7 megapixel camera for.
always strive to extend your reach. And getting a 7 megapixel camera (whatever that is) is certainly GOOD. But striving to play a piano better and buying a grand — may make you a great pianist. But it doesn’t make you Mozart. Olivia is Mozart. 🙂

It wasn’t meant badly. Please don’t take it that way.
I was just teasing you back — I stuck my tongue out and everything. (Now I’m gonna pout because my funny wasn’t funny)
it’s me, not you. The part of my brain that contains social skills has been on the fritz for a number of weeks. So I can’t tell if I’ve insulted people or they’re kidding. 🙂

but I am nearly impossible to insult so you should always assume you haven’t.
I’m zooming into the future a few hours and imagining you up to your freckles in little round pieces of paper.
is to throw them away as you go. Cleaning out the hole punch makes it more efficient. (Can you tell I have a sister who spent most of her life in the manufacture and sales of office products and LOVED to talk about them? On the other hand, she got me a really nice hole punch.)
(whatever the hell that means). My older sister is a teacher who talks to Jim about teaching and school shit so I don’t have to.
an excuse to procrastinate. The Bee’s Knees:
Love that photo … it’s awesome … 🙂
I’ve hesitated to put this and one other water droplet shot up because they’re grainy — I want them to have the lovely sharpness that your shots do.
I think it’s a great shot.
How close were you to the shot — is it cropped?
but it’s also cropped so I could scale it up some for posting.
The actual limb and dew drop is only slightly grainy — I think those colours are difficult to capture sharply. With 7 mps you should be able to get really sharp details — like your bee macro … that was really sharp, so that’s why I’m wondering if it’s d/t the light and colours.
that because of the low light I had to shoot at 400 iso to get any focus — which makes the graininess much work.
I find it really hard to work w/ low light outdoors, doing macro stuff.
Yeah, especially when you don’t use a tripod. I’ve thought about getting one of those gorillapods but I figure it’s pointless because I’ll never want to schlep it with me.
You should get one! There are really light ones … Just think of the wonders you could capture and delight us w/ then!

is they really cut down on the time I can spend actually walking — which is still the main reason I’m going out.
I have a little tiny tripod called an ultrapod that I can use for ground shots — it’s how I did the frost flowers.
that’s true … you’re out there to walk first, not take pix … I’m assuming the dogs wouldn’t appreciate you setting up a tripod to take a photo … 🙂
about my stopping for a moment for a quick shot. And they hate, hate, hate macro shots.
most ppl do too … they really hate it when I’m around w/ the camera … and on that note, I’m going downtown to check out the canal … they’ve opened some of it for skating, and it’s a beautiful blue sky day … perfect for pix.
Catch ya later!
Jim would be jealous if he hadn’t already headed off to the ice rink.
they even have a Skate Patrol…enjoy!
don’t fall on the cam tho…it’ll hurt both of ya…:{)
John McCain: The truth.
I can’t wait to see the pics. I can’t remember the last time anything around here froze over enough to skate on it. It used to, when I was kid.
both the neighboring lake and pond here freeze over thick enough for skating here all the time. I wouldn’t have thought we were that much colder.
And thanks for the info on bee’s knees. 🙂
the difference between being in the country and being in the city. When I was a child we used to be able to skate on the pond at the local park about a mile from here but I haven’t seen anybody skating on it in years — there are usually signs up warning that it isn’t frozen enough and I believe them, it doesn’t look like the ice is that thick. You’re welcome. And you’re the eel’s ankle. LOL!
I think I will have to be insulted at being called an eel.
I feel a book-reading jag coming on (oh and Sniff is looking for a snuggle-buddy on the couch). See ya later and happy hole punching.
Maybe FM or SN will come along to keep me company.
You’re the cat’s pajamas (I don’t think Sniff will like that one.)
great pic andi…made me think of antlers
this old 10pt. buck’s been hanging around the yard w/ a little 4pt’r that follows him around like a puppy/shadow:
John McCain: The truth.
yeah they do — I hadn’t though about those grape vine tendrils look close up; I just like all the shapes they twist into.
We got a lot of deer around here but very few males.
What’s Bu think of Mr Buck …
You staying warm?
she knows better than to chase wildlife…is verboten.
she will however, chase rabbits and prairie dogs occasionally, but she’s pretty well trained in that regard because there’s so much of it about…esp dangerous habit re: raccoons too….they’re vicious when cornered.
IVG would appreciate that … 🙂
the one’s she has caught she retrieves to me…unhurt, as she has a very soft mouth….as do most retrievers…but scared real bad…:{)
John McCain: The truth.
she doesn’t need the rabbits 😉
wow, what a rack!
see you’ve got our weather there today…brrrrrrrrrrr
got a chinook going today and it’s up to 40º already…cleat blue sy…big change from yesterday.
webcam of valley and front range
John McCain: The truth.
That webcam is really cool. So is it looking in the direction that you live?
Your sky is very blue today. Ours is starting to get blue, the flurries have stopped. But it’s still windy. This morning it made me wish for the good old days when the service station attendent pumped the gas while I sat in the nice warm car.
mi casa is near the left upper center of the middle image, in the trees near the big long snow field…that’s Chatauqua Park/Open Space/Green Belt
John McCain: The truth.
I see the snowfield and what I assume are trees. I wish it had a zoom function, then you could go out and wave to me 🙂
and that ain’t gonna happen…sorry…:{)
John McCain: The truth.
::sniff:: I thought you’d do anything for me …
But I wouldn’t ask you to go on the roof anyway because I wouldn’t want to be watching on the webcam and see you fall off. I’d have to call 911 out there and try to describe you and where you live .. without any details. It would be ugly.
you know I’d do most anything for ya…I mean…w/ those gorgeous freckles and your bubbly personality…but suicide is asking a bit much…:{)
John McCain: The truth.
ask for suicide. I’d much rather have you around. After all, not many people think freckles are gorgeous.
Hey dada, I only have 16 mins. & 14 secs to wait for the nexxt shot. That`s very cool.
“Poison”, that`s the ticket, no?
really slams my processor tho…chews up a lot of power/bandwidth…maybe I’m not set up quite right yet…still playing w/ it and thinking that going to Tiger might be a good idea…need to ? w/ apple site and see if this G3 can handle it
John McCain: The truth.
lunch. Everything is family when the teenager is grounded.
Looking back on it, that’s probably why my parents never grounded any of us. They didn’t want to spend all that time with us. 🙂
when my older sister between the ages of 14-16 refused to go anywhere with us. We all enjoyed it very much.
LOL
Moving is something I do well having had to do it so much.
I wish you were too. I have moved a lot in my life and absolutely hate it. I still have the moving boxes from when I moved to Texas as I have learned never to throw them away. LOL
Was wondering how you were fairing w/ the house hunt.
Did you go skate or only people watch?
it was very brisk … 🙂
No skating … I wasn’t sure how much was open and didn’t want to carry both my skates and my camera ;). Turns out that it wasn’t a very big section and it was so crowded that I’m not sure you could call it skating …
I’ve got some pix … just getting them on the computer now … if any turn out, I’ll pop them in a cafe.
so there’s a nice clean spot just waiting for them.
Thanks Olivia!!! I am getting there. It is still scary but what the hell I have been through worse things in my life.
That’s good Refinish. It’s so nice to find out that you know someone who can give practical assistance. Good luck!
(And if anyone can get their ass in gear and get anything done — it’s you.)
Thanks MaryB. It will also be great not having to deal with a roommate situations. As big a people person as I am, I do have difficulty with roommates.
I hope you find a first-rate place with a first-rate landlord.
Thanks Miss Andi!!!! I was starting to get really nervous as you can guess. I am not out of the woods yet but getting there.
but I suppose not when you are apartment hunting.
LOL
right over here.
