On the positive side, Jeb Bush actually made the effort to make sure that his voter registration was current in 2009. On the negative side, he registered as an Hispanic.
The brain is a wonderful thing. My brain reminds me of the exact moment when I first learned that there was a person in the world named John Ellis Bush (or, should I say, Jebby?):

NEW ORLEANS — A bristling Vice President George Bush today defended his description of his three Mexican-American grandchildren as “the little brown ones,” saying, “This heart knows nothing but pride and love” for the children.
“For anyone to suggest that that comment of pride is anything other than what it was, I find it personally offensive,” Bush said at a news conference with his running mate, Sen. Dan Quayle of Indiana.
Bush on Tuesday introduced his grandchildren to President Reagan at a brief airport meeting.
“These are Jebby’s kids from Florida, the little brown ones,” the vice president said. The three youngsters are the children of Bush’s son, Jeb, and his Mexican-born wife, Columba.
“Those grandchildren are my pride and joy, and when I say pride, I mean it,” Bush said today.
“I don’t want to see these kids hurt and they weren’t hurt by what I said, and if they’re hurt by misinterpretation, that isn’t fair and I don’t like it,” he said.
Some people never leave the news.
Treasury Secretary James A. Baker III, Bush’s campaign chairman, told reporters, “The vice president is extremely proud of the fact that his grandchildren are 50% Hispanic.”
The funny thing is, James Baker made no mention of Poppy Bush being proud that one of his sons was 100% Hispanic.
Contacted by the New York Times, Jeb’s campaign “could offer no explanation for the characterization” Jeb made on this voter registration form.
I await some reaction from Donald Trump and Orly Taitz.
What the heck, Elizabeth Warren said she was a Native American.
Race and ethnicity are all in your head, right?
She’s like 1/8 or something. Maybe one of her grandparents were? I don’t remember the details. Anyway, might as well beat this drum if only to goad the Teahadists into scuttling Jebster’s chance at the nomination.
Come on now. He just checked the wrong box. It happens.
That’s probably true. I don’t care which box he checked, what bothers me is that his campaign seems incapable of dealing with this situation. All they had to do was say that he checks the Hispanic box for his children so often that he made a mistake. That would solve this problem while still showing a connection to the Hispanic community. That they are allowing this to become anything more than a simple mistake does not speak well to their ability to run the most powerful nation on the planet.
Has Breitfart or any of the other clowns picked this up yet?
This week Mr.
ZeligBush is Asian.Apart from the peculiarity of J. Bush’s answer to the question, I wonder why the question of ethnicity/ race or whatever it’s called is asked in the first place. The gov. might as well ask about sexual preferences and phobias.
The justification for it is information to guide policy. The benign interpretation is that if minorities are not registering at the same rate as the dominant group, we should do something about it. The malevolent interpretation is that we want to know whether our voter suppression policies are working.
It comes over as racist, however you cut it, very primitive.
As Cervants says, there’s actually very good reason to ask this question. Policies like the Voting Rights Act rely on us knowing what the racial makeup of the voting population is. And besides, the question is optional and people can refuse to answer.
Contrast this with a country like France which officially recognizes no race at all. That means that when institutional racism inevitably rears its ugly head, there’s no way for the government to measure or know about it.
I didn’t know it is optional.
So far Jeb’s version of a being a Presidential contender has been lackluster. There’s been no charisma, no wisdom, no strength. The highlight of his news cycle is that he goofed in filling out a form that would knowingly be scrutinized by op research.
Beginning to think Bush has already lost any primary and it will be between Paul, Cruz & Walker.
why was he registering in 2009? didn’t he vote in the previous elections?
