First, the latest news:
A Web site has counted “The Number of Fucks In Deadwood”: “HBO’s series Deadwood had a reputation for salty dialogue even before the first episode aired. It was nearly impossible, they said, to keep count of the number of f-words spoken during each program. We took it as a challenge” [Photo: Al Swearengen played by Ian McShane]:
- Total fucks in series: 1406
- Cumulative series FPM: 1.41
- Total fucks in Season Two: 575
- Average fucks per episode: 95.8
- Cumulative Season Two FPM: 1.78

Appropriately enough, Deadwood won a George Foster Peabody Award to recognize distinguished achievement and meritorious service in the media and television. “This HBO series twists the conventions of the Western into an excruciating knot of history and imagined events. The Deadwood mining camp is peopled with the profane and violent men — and women — who occupy the fragile frontier between civilization and savagery.” [Photo: Joanie Stubbs, madame of the Chez Ami, played by Kim Dickens]
Sarah Paulson, who plays the conniving governess Miss Isringhausen — and can drink and swear with the best of ’em — stars as Laura Wingfield in the current Broadway revival of Tennessee Williams’ The Glass Menagerie, headlining Jessica Lange and also starring Christian Slater and Josh Lucas. At the Ethel Barrymore Theatre.
Below, tonight’s episode …

Al Swearengen (Ian McShane), Cy Tolliver (Powers Boothe), and Trixie (Paula Malcomson)
Episode 19: E.B. Was Left Out
Tolliver enlists Lee to clean up Wolcott’s mess. Stubbs confides in Utter, who overreacts when Wolcott “steps on his toe.” Swearengen meets Alma [PHOTO] to inform her of a Pinkerton agent in camp; she and Bullock confer about her bank — and other expanding prospects. Tolliver’s try at damage control backfires when he asks Swearengen to convene a Camp Fathers’ meeting, while the Mayor is chagrined to be excluded. Wolcott summons Utter to barter Hickok’s last letter in exchange for information about Stubb.
Great lines from last week’s episode:
Sol: “If you keep this up we’re going to fight, and you’ll have to work by yourself while I convalesce.”
Doc Cochran to Swearengen: “You, Al, are an object lesson in the healing powers of obstinacy and hostile disposition.”
Al: “You looked out for yourself against the chance I would die.”
Farnum [PHOTO]: “I never wished for that outcome. But I am a born follower.”
Commissioner Jarry: “And you, Mr. Wolcott, I find you the severest disappointment of all.”
Wolcott: “Often to myself as well.”
I am watching the 6PM show!
Al is prime form. Stubbs must be headed for the GEM.
And Utter was awesome. Don’t scuff my sneaks.
I have to watch it again at 9PM … the sun was too bright and I couldn’t see my TV very well.
Great machinations. Great lines. Seth to Alma: “It becomes you.” Ohhhh. And the previews! Martha knows.
P.S. My daughter says tonight’s “Arrested Development” is the last of the season. Hopefully not the last forever.
Good old Charlie with the beat down! Shoulda crushed that monster’s skull.
that was probably the most satisfying beating I’ve ever seen. I was waiting for someone to challenge someone to a duel or for some excuse to be made for shooting W.
That was satisfying. What was it he said at the hotel about blowing Wolcott’s head off? It was classic.
fucking hilarious diary, and I STILL haven’t even seen DEADWOOD!
