Oh, no, I am not ashamed for my country.
Donald Trump has picked Linda McMahon, co-founder of pro wrestling company WWE, to lead his Small Business Administration, his transition team said Wednesday.
The 68-year-old McMahon was a major Trump backer during his campaign.
Not at all.
Why would any of this be beneath the dignity of anything?
Must have run out of generals, so he’s back to billionaires/multi-millionaires. OT, what is up with that man’s ties? Is he making up for his small hands by wearing his ties 10 inches below his belt? WTH.
OT — to start a new fashion trend supplied exclusively by one of his kid’s new enterprise? Surprised this didn’t get more coverage — Business Insider noted and mocked it in August. The pictures included in the article suffice to show how ridiculous his fetish looks.
I usually don’t harp on appearances, but you don’t have to be a fashionista to know he looks silly. OTOH, like with the spray tan and hair, it’s probably another physical example of surrounding yourself with sycophants. Who’s going to tell him what looks good and what doesn’t…. SAD.
Yes, but he goes to some lengths to get ties that can hang well below his belt.
Connecticut (very blue Connecticut) 2010 Senate race:
Blumenthal: 55.16%
McMahon: 43.22%
CT 2012 Senate race:
Murphy: 55.1%
McMahon: 43.3%
(Blumenthal’s 2016 GOP challenger only pulled in 34.6% of the vote.)
So, I’d say that wrt to McMahon and WWE, Connecticut has been an embarrassment for some time.
The Hill — Senate Dem defends McMahon’s qualifications:
While I’ve never and will never understand why anyone not only finds fake wrestling entertaining enough to watch but also entertaining enough to pay for, it should be noted that Vince and Linda McMahon only better exploited the McMahon family business beginning with granddaddy. Sort of like Trump’s rise to wealth and fame. What’s destructive is Murphy’s view that small family businesses that grow into behemoths is a positive and the correct objective for all small businesses. Ignores the fact that at a certain size, a growing and previously small business either becomes ripe for a bigger fish to gobble up, begin gobbling up the smaller fish itself, or use other means to destroy the small fries. Then an economy is left with monopolies that only offer a homogenized product/service, organic creativity is lost in favor of tech “solutions” and “creativity, loyalty to and from employees disappears and is replaced with worker insecurity, suppliers are squeezed on price by the single buyer, and consumers have no choice on quality and price. And the descendants of the original small business owner can live lavishly by “clipping coupons” and contribute nothing to the “family biz.”
“Thinking big” may be one of the ingredients in the high failure rate of small, start-up businesses. Would Antoine’s be Antoine’s if one of the descendants had turned it into a chain?
You knew this was coming. It’s who the GOP is. Have you not seen the shit Kasich is now pulling in Ohio, that supposed GOP “moderate.”
I can only hope this precludes her from running for senate because 2018 is going to be yet another bloodbath.
Or she might use it as a stepping stone to the Senate. Depending on how strong Murphy is as an incumbent.
Well, the reality is that control of the federal government has fallen into the tiny hands of a malicious, fact-challenged carnival barker. His presidency is all about personal profit, by whatever means necessary; indiscriminate lying, because in truth he may be such a congenital liar that he can’t tell the difference between fact and falsehood; and tawdry “showmanship.” For this purpose, having a WWE hack as a cabinet secretary is perfect. There may even be at a degree of unintended honesty in this choice, since it signals to the world that what’s important is buffoonery, so long as it’s bought by the masses.
You know, we don’t have to worry about dystopian future scenarios. Were already living in one!
Trump is implementing the most effective campaign against government since Reagan.
Who could possibly be in favor of federal government involvement in anything at all with the team he is putting in charge?
The question is have we reached the event horizon where all political information collapses into fake news, meaningless babble and partisan-speak? I’m saying if we haven’t already it will still look a lot like this. It may not be as long a journey as we thought.
I think we passed that the day Trump won his first GOP primary.
Y’know…you may have a point there, santiago.

The Path of Blame
This would immediately clear up a number of questions!!!
Hmmmmm…
AG
P.S. Of course…I’m only kidding.
Or…am I?
HMMMmmmm…!!!

Nominating a purveyor of fake entertainment for the credulous to head a second (or third) tier agency is just the price of admission to Trumper’s heavyweight champeen cage match—like the stale popcorn, the sno-cone syrup you sat in, the puddle of vomit in the parking lot. There’s certainly plenty worse to come than an incompetent at SBA, so on with the national flagellation!
The incompetent white electorate is enjoying it all immensely, so there’s that….
that the fans aren’t dupes, they get that it’s all fake. They don’t mind. They like it fine that way!
The inescapable parallel to the political nightmare pummeling us* does not bring me comfort or reassurance, alas.
*yeah, mixed metaphor . . . so sue me.
Confused, do I include Luchadores in this grouping to be shamed?
Of all the shit he’s pulled, this is in some ways the most distressing. Never mind “The Audacity of Hope”, try “The Absurdity of Audacity”. Or “The Audacity of Stupid”.
He’s humiliating our country on the world stage. Everyone, everywhere, is pointing and laughing at stupid America.
He’s humiliating our country on the world stage. Everyone, everywhere, is pointing and laughing at stupid America.
That already happened. Remember George W. Bush?
A morning after the election, I saw this looping on Japanese TV almost non-stop :-]
“Ashamed for”? You mean “ashamed of”.
You are ashamed of your country, and with good reason.
No, I meant what I said.
Has she done any Arabian horse judging?
In the order of my concern, though, I have to say this ranks way behind Justice and the EPA.
OHH YEAAAHHHHHHH LAYING THE SMACKDOWN!

I know very little about WWE. Mostly what I know comes from that Mickey Rourke film, which I realize is a Hollywood version of it… but probably somewhat accurate of how it all works.
Reading Crooks & Liars gives more info about Linda McMahon. She is, apparently, your typical garden variety greedy grubby sociopath making her millions off the backs of the performers of this particular carnival side show attraction. Adamantly against unionization of the wrestlers, themselves, who, no doubt, end up pretty ruined by their “work.” Not much in the way of assistance with health care, which they’d need. And I believe that their forced to pay for their own travel on grueling schedules.
Yeah, that’d be about right for Trump: screw over the workers at every possible opportunity whilst enriching yourself fantastically from their labors.
No surprises. She’ll run the SBA in exactly the way Trump wants, and all those Republican small business owners who thought they’d get treated so well by Trump are gonna learn the hard way just how royally screwed over they’re gonna get.
As someone else said, this unsurprising appointment is far down my list of concerns next to creeps like Sessions & Flynn, and gawd only knows what swamp monster he’ll finally annoint to be Sec of State.
Albeit Trump’s slavering base will just love love love this appointment because… ?? who knows. Just because.
We are a third world banana republic now. Get used to it.
I can’t believe that with all the great sci-fi movies and books that I’ve consumed, Idiocracy may have been the most prescient.
