   My advise to the President, get rid of his body asap. Deliver the coffin to Saudi Arabia, the homeland of the Wahabists. I wonder what the effect will be in his birthland Yemen and the Arabian revolution.

     They say they are going to treat his body in accordance with Islamic tradition – a wise decision in my view – which means burial as soon as possible. Since, as I understand, they assassinated him days ago, it is already past the time when the body ideally should have been buried, so it would be best not to delay the burial any more than it has already been delayed by sending him to the Wahhabis in the KSA. ;o}

     One dilemma does present itself. Ordinarily the body should be ritually washed and shrouded in white cloth for burial. The exception is martyrs, who should be buried in whatever they were wearing when they were killed. So, if the United States wants to be proper, they need to consider the fact that bin Laden and his followers, as well, possibly, as some flavors of Muslims who were not his followers, would consider him a martyr. I, for one, consider him a heretic, so I don’t care at all what happens to his body, but the martyr/not martyr question is politically interesting, and pretty much a no-win situation for the Americans.

   The town of Abbottabad in British India was the headquarters of Hazara Division, and named after Major James Abbott who settled the town and district in 1848 after the annexation of the Punjab. He soon after became the first Deputy Commissioner of the district between 1849 until 1853. Major Abbott is noted for having written a poem titled “Abbottabad”, prior to his departure back to Britain, in which he wrote of his fondness for the town and his sadness at having to leave it. Abbottabad became and is still an important military cantonment and sanatorium, being the headquarters of a brigade in the Second Division of the Northern Army Corps. The garrison consisted of four battalions of native infantry (Gurkhas) and four native mountain batteries.

   In June 1948, the British Red Cross opened a hospital in Abbottabad to deal with thousands of patients who were being brought in from the Kashmir fighting areas. On the October 8th, 2005 Abbottabad was devastated by the Kashmir earthquake. Although most of Abbottabad survived, many old buildings were destroyed or damaged.

   Bin Laden was found at luxurious Pakistan compound

   WASHINGTON –  U.S. forces finally found al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden not in the rugged mountains of Afghanistan’s border, but in a million-dollar compound in an upscale suburb of Pakistan’s capital, with his youngest wife, U.S. officials said.

   They were led to the fortress-like three-story building after more than four years tracking one of bin Laden’s most trusted couriers, whom U.S. officials said was identified by men captured after the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.

   Bin Laden was finally found — more than 9-1/2 years after the 2001 attacks on the United States — after authorities discovered in August 2010 that the courier lived with his brother and their families in an unusual and extremely high-security building, officials said.

   Intense security measures included 12- to 18-foot (3.6 meters to 5.5 meters) outer walls topped with barbed wire and internal walls that sectioned off different parts of the compound, officials said. Two security gates restricted access, and residents burned their trash, rather than leaving it for collection as did their neighbors, officials said.

   Few windows of the three-story home faced the outside of the compound, and a terrace had a seven-foot (2.1 meter) privacy wall, officials said. “It is also noteworthy that the property is valued at approximately $1 million but has no telephone or Internet service connected to it,” an administration official said. “The brothers had no explainable source of wealth.”

   U.S. analysts realized that a third family lived there in addition to the two brothers, and the age and makeup of the third family matched those of the relatives — including his youngest wife — they believed would be living with bin Laden.

   Exclusive: Raid yields trove of data

   (Politico) – The assault force of Navy SEALs snatched a trove of computer drives and disks during their weekend raid on Osama bin Laden’s compound, yielding what a U.S. official called “the mother lode of intelligence.”

   The special operations forces grabbed personal computers, thumb drives and electronic equipment during the lightning raid that killed bin Laden. “They cleaned it out, can you imagine what’s on Osama bin Laden’s hard drive,” one official said.

   U.S. officials are about to find out. The material is being examined at a secret location in Afghanistan.

   Easy to offer such an article when one doesn’t balance all the facts of a high risk mission in a foreign country. History offers the other side of a mission gone awry in 1980. Before the compound was entered, one helicopter was lost.  There was no quarantee the Navy Seals could get out of Pakistan alive. They left a large number of Bin Laden’s family members unharmed behind in the fortified compound. They did take male occupants prisoner and made off with a trove of computer data HD’s and USB sticks. This was an operation performed within the judicial circumstance of a declared war on Al Qaeda leadership and its members. The world-wide operation by the Al Qaeda terror Group had slaughtered innocent people across the globe from New York, London, Madrid, Marocco, Tunesia, Kenya, Tanzania, Jordan,Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Indonesia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Soviet satellite states and the Philippines. Individual hostages have had their throats slices by the “men of Islam”. No need to gloat or rejoyce, but also no need to second guess as to the outcome of this mission. Most likely Osama Bin Laden was harbored by Pakistani military and intelligence community. It is very possible the Navy Seals used the Ghazi airport facility nearby as a hub for the mission.

   Osama Bin Laden’s Ultimate Victory

   Islam teaches combatants to respect their enemies. The death of an opponent is tragic, sometimes a tragic necessity, but never trivial, never a subject for joking. A vanquished enemy should be dispatched quickly, presumably to be chastised by Allah for his wickedness in the afterlife, but he is never to be mocked. A Muslim should not enjoy war or combat, nor gloat when victorious. When the powerful crush the weak, as was the case with the U.S. killing of Bin Laden, dancing around like a beefy hunk of steroids spiking the football at the touchdown line makes one look small.

   It also makes us look dumb. As anyone not drunk on bloodlust knows, the worst thing that could have happened to Osama Bin Laden would have been arrest followed by a fair trial.

   Geronimo Again? The Indian Wars Continue Ad Nauseam

   What the hell were they thinking? Why would the first African American President of the United States, as U.S. Commander in Chief, think nothing of U.S. military forces applying the code name “Geronimo” to Osama bin Laden during the reported assault against that long-sought enemy of the United States? Apparently, having an African American President in the White House is not enough to overturn the more than 200-year American tradition of treating and thinking of Indians as enemies of the United States.

   Question: Did President Barack Obama point out to his military brass that such a disrespectful use of Geronimo’s name was inappropriate? Probably not.

   In my book Pagans in the Promised Land (Fulcrum, 2008) I use the theory of the human mind (cognitive theory) to explain the “cognitive unconscious” of the United States. Certain ingrained traditions of thought, both conscious and unconscious, have been used for generations by U.S. government officials. Such thinking has resulted in the development of predominantly anti-Indian U.S. federal Indian laws and policies. The result has been laws and policies that have proven detrimental to Indian nations and peoples.

   George Washington, in 1784, used the analogy “the savage as the wolf” to refer to our Indian ancestors as less-than-human “beasts.” As Henry Wheaton said in his Elements of International Law, “The heathen nations of the other quarters of the globe were the lawful spoil and prey of their civilized conquerors.”

   Unauthorised raid must not serve as precedent, US told

   ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (DawnNews) – “This event of unauthorised unilateral action cannot be taken as a rule. The government of Pakistan further affirms that such an event shall not serve as a future precedent for any state, including the US. Such actions undermine cooperation and may also some time constitute threat to international peace and security,” a statement issued by the Foreign Office said.
   The statement spelt out why it was taking the raid as an exception.

   “The government of Pakistan recognises that the death of Osama bin Laden is an important milestone in fight against terrorism and that the government of Pakistan and its state institutions have been making serious efforts to bring him to justice.”

   The statement, however, appeared to be contradicting the initial official reaction issued on Monday which was seen by many as an attempt to possibly express helplessness about, if not justify, the US Navy Seal strike team’s incursion under CIA command. It said: “This operation was conducted by the US forces in accordance with declared US policy that Osama bin Laden will be eliminated in a direct action by the US forces, wherever found in the world.”

   Information Minister Firdous Awan had gone one step further by giving it the cover of international law when she said the US action had been conducted in exercise of a UNSC resolution.
