I’m Ready for the Rapture…

because I have just seen everything! Is there anyone out there… has it already come… did I miss everything?

As a preface, I live in a moderately sized city in a very Bible-belty Red State. I’m sitting in traffic during lunch hour and I begin to pull along side a huge burgundy GMC Suburban. This thing is brand new, spotless, and tricked out with huge tires, custom chrome wheels and spinners… replete with the magnetic “support our troops” and “God Bless America” ribbons… No “W” sticker… puzzling.

As I’m pulling along side this Mammoth(and I use this term because I truly feel that they will someday be extinct…) I start thinking to myself…”Oh great… let’s just take a look at this W-worshipping soccer mom…”
So, I’m peering up(and I do mean WAY up) into driver’s side of this car as I pull even, and what do I see…?

Here sits a woman of very clearly middle-eastern descent dressed in a black burhka sans veil… there are also pictures of what appear to be her kids hanging in little frames from the rear view mirror as well as a handicapped parking permit! My cognitive dissonance was such that I got honked at for almost missing the light change…

Being a firm advocate for self examination, about a bazillion questions pop into my mind… I guess, what it all boils down to is, do I have a racist tendency that’s clearly showing, or do I need to be calling the FBI about suspicious behaviors…? Honestly, I think, at least for myself, that this is just a false question. The real explanation might be better summarized if Bono were to write it up as an additional verse for “Bullet the Blue Sky”… “Outside it’s America, Outside it’s America…”

SCOTUS vs Grokster

In case anyone is not aware, there will be argued a fairly interesting case in the Supreme Court today in regards to file sharing technology. If this is stealing from anyone else’ diary, post a comment, and I’ll be glad to delete.

I’m not sure where I, myself, stand on this issue. MP3’s are pretty cool, and years ago snuck up on everyone. They will not be going away…

I suppose that the interesting argument that I want to see the Supremes resolve may not even be presented today… that of this issue’s relatedness to gun control…
I was listening to NPR’s discussion about the case this morning on the way into work. I couldn’t help but be struck with the fact that this issue is analogous to the logic thrown up by the NRA to defend gun manufacturers.

The technology itself(guns) can be used for both legal or illegal means; sharing non-copyrighted vs. copyrighted material(protection/second amendment vs. criminal activities/murder). Courts, IMHO, have routinely sided with manufacturers that they are not liable for the misuse of their products… this one seems pretty cut and dried, even though you grant the fact that this technology is overwhelmingly used for illicit purposes. Is this not equivalent to allowing 50cal. assault rifles to be marketed in this country for hunting? Any thoughts? I am not terribly opinionated about this issue, but would probably side with those that would not fault or prohibit the technology…

White House Easter Egg Hunt

WHITE HOUSE EASTER EGG HUNT

Being as it is Easter and a lot of us are indulging in the tradition of the Easter Egg hunt, I thought it would be appropriate to post a few of the Easter Eggs that knowledgeable Left-leaning web surfers, video gamers, and DVD viewers and collectors could enjoy. For those of you that are not into DVDs or video games, as a way of explanation, an “Easter EGG” is a little extra bit of content, usually added by the programmer, or video developer. It usually provides, extra features, more content, or generally humorous messages from the unrecognized people behind the scenes.

This listing is not meant to be all-inclusive, but merely a forum for others to share and enjoy the ones that they have found. This being said, with the fluidity of the internet and such, the author cannot verify for certain many of the links presented:

Let’s go egg hunting …after the fold…

WEB EASTER EGGS
It’s a little known fact that there are a number of “Easter Eggs” to be had on the internet… you just have to know where to look!

Go to http://www.whitehouse.gov/ :  click on the little “email updates” icon… click your “back button”… repeat this sequence two more times, and then type in the word “animatronics” in the search box and hit return.
You should then be treated to a little QuickTime video narrated by Karl Rove describing the hard work behind the presidency (better act quickly on this one before it’s taken down):

(this is an actual screen capture from the video)

Want to take a quick little jaunt into the Twilight Zone?
Just type in, click on, or copy and paste this link into your browser: http://www.boomantribune.com
You should be instantly transported to another Online Progressive Playground that looks and behaves like The Daily Kos, but only with a different name and color scheme!

DVD EASTER EGGS
Quite a rewarding Easter Egg can be found on “Law and Order – Season 12 ” DVD just released this year. To find this little gem, go to the main menu… this one requires some real timing… at the sound of the “Doink, Doink”, click on the special features option… If you time it just right, you will be treated to the episode that NBC refused to air last year! It’s entitled “Federal Offense”.

(Actual still from the episode)

Plot synopsis:  A dead Arab body winds up abandoned along the curb of a street in the Manhattan financial district. Autopsy reveals that the cause of death is due to horrific, multiple beatings and torture over an extended time, and not an assumed mugging.  Detectives Brisco and Green are thrust reluctantly into the limelight as they investigate, and must travel to Washington DC to unravel the mystery. They face insurmountable odds as they attempt to bring those responsible to justice.

Another great “Egg” can be had on the Fahrenheit 9/11 DVD… on the main menu, just as Bush’s advisor steps into the picture and whispers into his ear click on the “Features” option. This is a great option for all of the conspiracy minded out there… you will be treated to the film, in it’s entirety, with an overdubbed narration and analysis by former CIA Security Analyst Richard Clarke… warning, graphic language at points, particularly during Michael Moore’s interview with Porter Goss.

VIDEO GAME EASTER EGGS

This is one for the Computer based “Command and Conquer Generals”. It’s a little tricky… on the main menu animation screen track the Hum-Vee that comes tearing across the screen with your cursor, and just before it blows up, click on it. A splash screen should pop up that looks like this:

Congratulations!  You are now about to play “Command and Conquer Generals” – The Donald Rumsfeld Edition…

A small sub-menu should then pop up with the options 1) Up Armor, 2) Torture Mode, or 3) Scorched Earth… select which scenario you would like to try… they’re all equally bloodthirsty and futile! You’re handicapped by the game interface with not enough men or resources, inadequate equipment, lack of ability to raise money, and dwindling support at home with eventual citizen uprisings. Sort of an “Army that you have” type of scenario as you fight against the GLA Terrorists or the People’s Republic of China; and you can chose from the three strategy options above, or even a combination…

For all of you Sims 2 fans, there is an exciting new Washington DC Urbz expansion pack that can be played online. In all honesty, this is not really an “Easter Egg”, per se, but a clearly labeled expansion pack that is undergoing beta testing. In this game, you can take on and play the persona of many Washington DC politicians as well as outsiders and insiders. Sexual preferences, activity levels, and many, many other variables can be modified. At present, the two most popular guises seem to be 1) the single black female secretary of state, and 2) the false White House press corps. reporter and supposedly former male prostitute social climber. Be careful, it’s addicting!

Bush Addresses Grieving Red Lake Families

Bush Addresses Grieving Red Lake Families
By An Geredone

03/25/05 RED LAKE, MN (APE) – In a surprise pre-dawn move early this morning, the President flew onboard Air Force One to the Minneapolis St Paul International Airport. From there he journeyed by motorcade to the sleepy town of Red Lake, home of America’s most recent mass killing, the worst of it’s kind since Columbine, in April of 1999.

After arriving there, he participated in a smoke ceremony with the local Chippewa elders in remembrance of the victims.

“As many of you may already be aware,” said Mr. Bush, “I spoke yesterday about how this tragedy has affected me personally. Seeing the faces here, of our Native American Brethren, I become aware of the work that is yet to be done. The youths of the Chippewa Nation, and for that matter, all of our youths must never face such a horrible fate again. Indeed, our beliefs in God, Allah, or Buddha… whatever you may choose to call our creator, must sustain us during these times of pain.”

“I invite all Americans to participate in my epiphany,” stated the President, “and this I will pledge to you on this Good Friday… there will be no more fear. No more fear of our families living and dying in pain, poverty, and destitution. No more fear that we will not be able to afford even adequate healthcare. No more fear that you or your family won’t know where your next meal might be coming from.  No more fear that there will be nothing left for your old age or retirement. And finally, no more fear that a hand gun or assault rifle might be turned upon us in a fit of deadly anger or rage.”

“All of these things, God has told me, were weighing heavily, in the young mind of Jeff Weise, on that fateful day, three days ago”, said Mr. Bush.

The President went on later to explain, “For those in our government, who would seek to take advantage of the good faith of Native Americans and further reduce them to poverty, through bribery and kickbacks, I say to you, justice is on the way, with no delay. I have authorized Attorney General Alberto Gonzales to use extreme measures to render the hammer, if you will, and bring it to the anvil of justice that this administration so desperately clings to. He will also be meeting with Charleton Heston, the president of the National Rifle Association to come up with feasible measures for gun control in this country, to assure us all that the Red Lake tragedy will never occur again.”

Mr. Bush concluded, “I urge all Americans to anticipate the Easter Miracles yet to arrive over the coming months, as universal healthcare, respect for death with dignity, fortification of Social Security, and a true and expeditious timetable for the withdrawal of our brave sons and daughters from Iraq becomes a reality.”

Karl Rove, Mr. Bush’s Deputy Chief of Staff was noted to be wiping tears from his eyes during certain passages of the President’s speech, but made no public comment.

Bush Addresses Nation about Red Lake Shooting

“My fellow Americans… the events two days ago at Red Lake High School in Red Lake Minnesota are indeed a tragedy for us all to bear. My heart goes out to both the victims and the survivors.

Oftentimes in a tragedy of this magnitude, we are left only with our faith in a devine order to all things, and many questions for which there are no good answers.”

“It is at times like these that I am forced to bend a knee in prayer, and on this occasion, I can say that God has truly spoken to me.

There are many among us who would seek to ridicule me for this, but to them I say simply… hear me out.

The sixteen year old boy who is presumably responsible for this tragedy returned to the High School from which he dropped out… God has told me that he is not happy with No Child Left Behind.

His Grandparents, who were trying to raise him were still working to try to make ends meet because they had no retirement… God has told me that he is not happy with Social Security privatization.

The boy’s parents, victims of suicide and head trauma were not able to raise him… God has told me that he is not happy with health care in America.

The boy never saw a ray of hope of betterment in life while living in the poverty of a reservation…God has told me that he is not happy with racism and greed.

The only solution this poor boy saw was to take up a gun and kill… God has told me that he is not happy with fear and War.

In the coming weeks you can expect drastic changes in America, for the good of us all. For those of you whom I once considered my enemies, hear me now, I am ready to admit my mistakes and I will welcome your thoughts and suggestions as to how we can together answer God’s call. For tonight, remember your children, talk to them, love them, and give them a hug. Goodnight, and may we someday find God’s blessings again.”

What the hell, HE hasn’t said anything yet, so I thought I’d say it for him… a guy can dream can’t he?

The Wild, Wild, East

(BooMan, wow… great site! Sort of an alternate Kosiverse… I apologize in advance for crossposting this from DKos, but it was a quick way for me to feel out the BooMan Trib. I posted this on DKos last night, and it was up for maybe 10 minutes before it was “Schiavoed” off the list…)

Damn, maybe Dub has succeeded in bringing Justice to Iraq… Frontier Justice! And wouldn’t you know that NYT and AP are all over it like it’s good news.

NYT : “Ordinary Iraqis Wage a Successful Battle Against Insurgents”

AP : “Baghdad Shopkeepers Kill Three Militants”

Don’t get me wrong, were I in the shopkeepers place, I’d like to hope that I would have been able to save my own family and business as well… but isn’t that the responsibility of the occupying force?

“We attacked them before they attacked us,” Dhia, 35, his face still contorted with rage and excitement, said in a brief exchange at his shop a few hours after the battle. He did not give his last name. “We killed three of those who call themselves the mujahedeen. I am waiting for the rest of them to come and we will show them.”

After a heated gun battle that left three insurgents dead and two nephews and a bystander wounded, the remainder of the insurgents fled after the police showed up. Links are here: NYT and AP .

Quotes from Capitol Hill after the fold…

Sen. Barbara Boxer, a Democrat from California who strongly opposed the war, said al-Jaafari didn’t seem as “upbeat as our people, who seem to be very excited about the quality of the Iraqi police force. My sense was he was certainly in no rush to hand over security to his new police force,” she said.

Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., agreed, saying that “it’s too early to declare success.” But Sen. Richard Durbin, D-Ill., expressed “quiet optimism” about Iraq’s future.

Yup, Baghdad, they’s a new shurriff in town and he’s… well… yur it!

Mark my words, this shopkeeper will be shaking hands on TV with some Bush Administration official before the week is out! Frontier Justice and Freedom, American style, has arrived…
