Harold Ford’s "brilliant campaign- R Lowry
http://www.haroldfordjr.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=516
Harold Ford has posted the Oct 13 piece by Rich Lowry, “National Review: Ford Cracks the Code?”
It’s a concise analysis of Ford’s positioning himself to become a viable Senator from Tennessee. Lowry deems it a “brilliant campaign.”
I watched the Tuesday debate in Chattanooga twice, once by means of the local television version with its hiccups, and once when C-Span 2 ran it yesterday. The three-minute allowances for answers let the two candidates ramble and pick and choose their subjects. The audience didn’t seem too disturbed by that. I found that the questions, read by the person who wrote them, revealed more of the candidates’ ideas than ones posed by panels composed of media members.
John Laesch – 14th Illinois
Noticed the BooMan Tribune page today on my way to checking out John Laesch. According to the summary at
http://www.actblue.com/entity/fundraisers/8777
John has amassed $85K so far. I contributed as soon as the Foley storey broke, although I’d visited his website and knew some of his proposals from the start. Visit his pictures at www.john06.com for shots of him with Gen Clark, Howard Dean and others, also a sculpture of a young Abraham Lincoln. And doggy, Onyx!
The campaign responded quickly with a very professional thank you letter with bumper sticker enclosed. Consider helping out Hastert’s opponent!
Lamont website: improved appearance
Ned Lamont’s website was down on the weekend, and there is now a refreshing, brighter look plus more links than previously. It is still laid out with events and press notices at the bottom, so not a sea change.
John Dean’s take on Congressional scandals
In his usual thorough style, John Dean prepared a review of 36 scandals going back to Daniel Webster at his column at http://www.findlaw.com/. Of the 36 specific stories, 20 were Dems and 16 were Repubs. In the text of his post, Dean sifts the incidents by type of target, and pages were in a minority of victims, thankfully.
The column closes with compliments to Prof Jonathan Turley for his proposal for a new governance board for the page program to replace the one currently in place. His NYT Op-Ed is linked, in which he states that a sufficient number of former pages now live and work in Washington that an independent group can be formed to provide oversight and guidance as well as a sounding board for concerns the pages may have.
Olbermann comment tonight; Harold Ford debate 10/7
Keith Olbermann announced last night that he’ll have a Special Comment on his show tonight, Oct 5.
Harold Ford, Jr’s website posts the notice that his debate with Corker will be covered by C-Span on Saturday, Oct 7, at 7pm Eastern.
Harold Ford ads
A new (to me) ad at Ford’s website hits hard at Corker for hiring illegal workers: Corker was warned twice, but eventually four illegals were arrested at the building site. Lots of lessons contained in that 30 seconds!
Secondly, an ad promoting balanced budgets is set in a college cafeteria. The commentary makes the solid point that Ford will not overspend. This clever ad closes with the familiar University of Tennessee logo in the background.
Things are definitely looking up for Harold Ford, Jr.
Olbermann comment tonight
Just noticed that KO interviewed Pres Clinton last Friday; it’s available on the website.
Secondly, tonight, Monday Sept 25, Keith will post a Special Comment on 9/11.
Go, Keith!
