Chuck Todd; Lamont may have missed his moment

Chuck Todd, blogging for the National Journal, had some very interesting things to say about Ned Lamont, and almost none of it was very good.

Todd says when Lamont beat Joe Lieberman in the primary in August, Lieberman was down. He had lost the primary, he had lost his party, he had very little staff, and very little money. Instead of going for the kill, Lamont let Lieberman up from the canvas, and that could very well come back to haunt him in November.

Now, Lieberman is running as an Independent, he has wide support amongst Republicans and Independents, he has substantially cut into Lamont’s liberal base, he has the money, and the staff to win in November.
While the Iraq war is very unpopular in the state, some Connecicut voters are not connecting Lieberman with the war vote. Lamont has not carried much above the 40% mark in several polls, and his standing has very much stagnated in the last few weeks. Lamont has his liberal, anti-war supporters, but it’s going to take more than that to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. The Hartford Courant poll found that only 15% of Lieberman supporters still could change their minds prior to election day, and that same number could still change their minds, and not vote for Lamont.

Chuck Todd still thinks Lamont could pull this off, but he also says it’s going to take some sort of serious gaffe on Lieberman’s part to do so. If Lamont goes down in Nove, ber, he will take a hard look back at the month of August, where he had Lieberman, battered, and on the ropes, but couldn’t put him away.

Look down about halfway for the story.

Even better news, Lieberman up 20% on Lamont.

A new Reuters/Zogby poll came out this morning, and it has even better news for Joe Lieberman. A once close 4% race, has now snowballed into a Lieberman 20% lead.

According to the poll, Lieberman has 53% of the vote, to Lamont’s 33%. Republican Alan Schlesinger is still in single digits with 4%.

Also according to the Zogby poll, Liberals are leaving Lamont. Ned used to have about 70% liberal support, now that support is barely half, with Joe picking up 40% of liberal support. Lieberman still has an overwhelming lead among Republicans and Independents.

This is great news for Lieberman supporters like me, and this is a significant body blow to Lamont. Still 5 weeks to go, and I’m taking anthing for granted, but if these polls prove accurate, Joementum is surely back!!!

Barack Obama running for president??

According to Newsweek, via RAW story, insiders says that their is a “distinct possibility” that the Senator from Illinois will run for president.

Although, one of his spokesman says the chances are only 50-50. Obama has told his closest advisors that he is seriously considering “seizing the moment” and running.

A lot of Democrats are saying that Obama would make a good VP candidate on a Hillary Clinton, or John Edwards ticket.

Well, what do you guys think?? Should Barack Obama run for president in 2008, or wait until 2012, or even 2016??

One person who would certainly vote for him is Oprah Winfrey.

Latest Rasmussen poll; Lieberman up 10%

The latest Rasmussen poll is out and shows that Independent Joe Lieberman has a 10% lead over Democrat Ned Lamont, while Republican Alan Schlesinger is still in single digits. Lieberman has 50% of the vote, compared to 40% for Lamont. Lieberman has picked up 5% since the last Rasmussen poll, while Lamont has dropped 3%

Since I don’t subscribe to Rasmussen, I do not have the link, but go to http://www.pollster.com  and look in the little box on the right hand side of the page, about halfway down, and you’ll see the current updates.

Needless to say, this is great news for Lieberman, and not so good for Ned.

BREAKING NEWS; Washington Times will call for Hastert to resign

The Washington Times, in an editorial dated tomorrow, will call on speaker Dennis Hastert to resign.

“Speaker Hastert must do the right thing, and resign his speakership at once. Mr. Hastert has forfeited the confidence of the public, and his party, and he cannot preside over the necessary coming investigation, and furthermore, he must examine his own inept performance in this matter”.

The Times joins both David Bossie and Michael Reagan in demanding that speaker Hastert resign. This story is only going to get better for Democrats.

Two new poll still have Lieberman leading Lamont

Two news polls have come out this morning, both which show Joe Lieberman with leads over Ned Lamont. According to the Wall St. Journal poll, Lieberman has a 46-44% over Lamont, with Republican Alan Schlessinger in low single digits

In the Quinnipiac poll, Lieberman has a much larger lead. Joe has 49% of the vote, compared to Lamont with 39%. Alan Schlesinger has 5%.

I have compared the last 6 polls taken by various polling groups, and have compared them.  The findings are that Lieberman has an average of 49.2%, and Lamont has 42.8%, with Schlessinger with 4.6%

The difference between Chavez and Ahmadinejad

The news media, especially Foxnews, is all a twitter about what Hugo Chavez is doing in the Bronx this morning. He is supposedly going to give away cheap oil and gas contracts, so the poor in this country won’t freeze this winter.

Foxnews all morning long is criticizing both Chavez and Mamoud Ahmadinejad for their anti-US fervor in front of the UN the other day. Now, Foxnews want us to boycott CITGO gas because Chavez owns it, and they kept flashing a banner on the screen that read “How dare Chavez criticize the US at the UN”. Their are several differences between Chavez and Ahmadinejad, but I’ll just concentrate on one. Chavez is harmless, Ahmadinejad is not.

For all his bluster, Hugo Chavez sways very little power. Yeah, he poking a sharp stick in Bush’s eye, and I even welcome that. George Bush deserves every sharp stick in the eye he can get. His rhetoric against the US can be at times, over the top, but as a world player, he’s not even in the same ballpark as Ahmadinejad.

Mamoud Ahmadinejad is bascially controlling the Middle East. His little proxy way with Israel caused the Jewish state lots of problems. He wants the bomb, and everybody knows it. He is meddling in the affairs of Iraq, and the head of Iraq, Nouri Al-Maliki, recently paid a visit to Ahmadinejad for face to face talks. His inflammitory statements against Israel, and denying that the holocaust never happened, are certainly not helping matters any. In short, Ahmadinejad is a dangerous man. If he gets the bomb, then the danger increases ten-fold, not because he might use it, he probably won’t, but nuclear technology in the hands of rougue terrorist states, backed by Iran is not something that can happen.

Now, I’m not saying bomb Iran. that would be fool hearty, and quite possibly could make matters a whole lot worse. But what I am saying is that either indirect talks with Iran, or undermining  his power base, I think would go a long way to disarming Iran. I think France, Russia and China could be of significant help here. If they pressure Iran, plus backchannel talks, and possibly sanctions that hurt Ahmadinejad, but not his people is possible. A nuclear Iran is just not acceptable.

That’s the big difference between Chavez and Ahmadinejad. Chavez is like a mosquito bite, you notice it, but it’s not a problem. Mamoud Ahmadinejad is like a growing cancer, eventually, it might kill you.

Spitzer receives money from GOP bigwig.

Lets see if this story makes you mad or not. Eliot Spitzer, the Democratic candidate to be the next governor of New York, has received a check for $50,000 dollars from a prominent Republican.

Patrick Barrett, the former head of Avis rent-a-car, and a major supporter of the other GOP candidates in the past told the N.Y. Daily news, that Spitzer is going to be the next governor of New York, and I want to help him out.

I wonder if the Booministas will be as upset with Spitzer taking 50 grand from a prominent Republican, as much as they are when a certain Democrat, turned Independent did the same!!! Are you upset over this, or will the rank hypocrisy rear its ugly head again??!!
