Thursday Dog Blog (finally)

Lily was trying to make a clean getaway – with the laundry detergent.

When caught, she plopped down on her bed as if nothing was going on.
Hi all. I’ve been busy with some medical stuff and the run-up to our federal election, which hasn’t left any energy or brain space for anything else. I’ll be working a local polling booth this Saturday and then Imogen an I will have a much needed vacation.

Sunday (Easter) Bunny Blog

I bought the niece some water colors, and couldn’t help playing with them.  Hector refused to pose, but I think I captured his essence.
Hector, the world’s grumpiest Easter Bunny, would like to wish you all a hoppy Easter/Ishtar/Astarte/Aphrodite.

Bunnies, known for their fecundity, were totemic to her, and hence their continued association with her day.

Thursday Dog Bog (with Toy Box)

The Australian magpie is Imogen’s favorite bird.  She had a pet one in her teens named Claude (a female, actually). They raised it from a fledgling but it refused to leave when released.

Magpies haven’t been on our property before this year, but we seem to have a family group of about six now living in our valley. We’re hoping they stay and keep singing for us.

Thursday Dog Blog (birdy edition)

A just fledged Australian Scarlet robin chick, who didn’t seem to have the whole “wing thing” figured out yet.  Imogen was able to pick it up for a few photos.

Thursday Dog Blog

We’re building a medium security goldfish detention center, aka pond, in our front yard.  The mesh is keeping the ducks out until we can get it fully planted.

Thursday Dog Blog (butterfly edition)

The butterflies are back, in the thousands.

Female Common Brown Butterfly.
We can’t go walking on our land without sending dozens into the air every dozen steps or so. They flutter just above the ground or flit up into the trees. Mostly it’s the male Common Browns waiting for the females, of which I’ve only seen a few so far.
