Yesterday I did some research on President Franklin Pierce (D-NH). President Pierce is a relative of George W. Bush. First lady Barbara Bush is a member of the Pierce family.
There are some startling parallels between the two Presidents.
Both owed their political career to a politicaly active father. Pierce had a father who was a two term Governor of New Hampshire. George W. Bush’s father held some federal offices.
Both Pierce and Bush were drunks.
Both Presidents were born in New England, but pursued pro-Southern policies.
President Bush is a controversial figure, but most left wing Americans feel he is the worst US President ever. Some right wing Americans would disagree. There is however no doubt that Franklin Pierce was one of the weakest of American Presidents.
