do the staff imagine they will find a place with clean air and ground that children can safely walk on in bare feet? They will need more than $3000 to get to the Andaman Islands, or Fiji.
Appreciate the environmental humor, but all is relative. A ranch Community Prep’s principal has located that is rented out specifically for this kind of retreat 200 miles outside the city will do nicely.
And actually, neither Fiji nor the Andamans are looking too good these days…
Big favor here, don’t know if I may be out of line but what the heck. We all know it won’t be the first time(or probably the last…lol)Any way you would consider front paging Turtle Bay’s diary just for a couple hours. Folks are getting home from work now and I would hate to see this great cause get buried. Thanks for any consideration. Dkos thread up over $600.00 so far.
And Booman, thanks for this site and the chance it affords to get our appeal out to more people – scoop diaries rock! Until aloha pointed it out, didn’t even know you were here!
Again, front-page or not, thanks so much! And if you have any ideas/thoughts, etc, you’ve got my email now that I’m on site. Rock on, progressive blogosphere!
Well, the 30 acre farm got dropped from our consideration. The yokels got wind that some folks from Atlanta were interested and frigging raised the price by $40K!!! Sam sent an incendiary email to their agent; I begged him not to do it (he called the agent a carpetbagger and the owners, rubes, after changing it from hicks) but he clicked Send. So, we’ve probably made some enemies before we even arrive. (sigh)
We’ve decided to do the rational thing: rent an apartment and take our time finding the right property. So Saturday morning, we drive up and scout the available apartments. At least, I’ll probably have cable in an apt. and will be able to continue my blog addiction.
On the down side, infidelpig is beating me in the race to be prepared for the end of the world. (heavy sigh)
Oh and I almost forgot: I’ve lost TU status at dKos from lack of activity. You know what? I don’t care, really, truly. DTF thinks we’ll be at war with Iran in June. John Bolton is a bully. John Cloud is a pimp. My outrage meter is broken. Broken, I tell you.
I’m having one long anxiety attack about moving some place I’ve never been and… For a while today, there was the possibility that all of it could go up in smoke. You may recall that Sam was losing his contract because the international tech services company he works for lost their contract with a large telecommunications company. Their contract was underbid by a competitor. Well, it turns out the way the competitor planned on cutting costs was sending the servers and their tech support to a couple of former Eastern block countries and the telecommunications giant went Code Red — National Security Risk — when they found out. The whole contract transition is up in the air and new contractors may be left holding an empty bag of shit.
Sam contacted his superiors and cried, “Please let me out of here! Let me go to Lynchburg!” The response was, okay, you’re free to go. (whew!) But, we’re left feeling like serfs, like pawns on a giant chess board subject to the whims of the powers that be. Ah, we’re perceiving reality, aren’t we?
Wow! Sorry to hear of your situatiion. Hopefully it will all work out. When one door closes another always opens. I’ve done the move to where I knew nothing and didn’t even have a job so I know the anxiety you are feeling. keep an open mind and it will come. It is alawys a good idea to rent for a bit and scout out where you really want to be there. Best of luck. Here’ a big hug and some sunshine coming your way!
I guess we had the same thought at the same time, I just finished writing and posted then looked and there was your post saying the same thing. One door closes…..
Diane..would you check out Turtle bay’s diary? If you are unable to contribute that’s ok but would you all mind recommending. This is for a great cause. Dkos same diary has raised over $1010 so far. Thanks for looking at it.
Just read your post and let me try to comfort you with when one door closes another door opens. Doesn’t always hold true that a good door opens, but a lot of times it does and when it does; behold, something you never dreamed of might be there on the other side.
The anguish you and husband are feeling over job security long ago led my husband and I to start our own businesses so as never to be beholden to those pesky powers that be.
As to infedilpig beating you to preparations for the end of the world, I too am preparing for that eventuality. At least I am preparing for very likely trouble ahead of who knows what kind. Kind of takes me back to the 70’s.
Anyway I send to you wishes for good luck and good fortune.
I get a lot of bulletins of importance — more than I can write about. E-mail me if you’d like me to forward them on occasion to you for you to write a diary about. susanhuatearthlink.net
”BATTLING FOR SEATTLE”
Thursday, April 21 @ 14:13:48 PDT by howard martin (0 reads)
“The Election Is Over but the Dean-Kerry Rivalry Continues–In case you missed it, Howard Dean, the former Vermont governor who now chairs the Democratic National Committee, just blew through town. He was here April 13 for a downtown DNC fundraiser that was closed to the press. If you’re tearing up at the thought that you missed him, calm down and put on a happy face. He’s going to be back soon enough–on Sunday, June 5, events TBA, according to the seattlefordean.com website. And here’s a bit of breaking news: I have it on good authority that John Kerry is dropping by as well. He’ll be here on May 1 and 2. The early word is that he’ll do a fundraiser for the state Dems and an event at Town Hall to tout his health care proposal to cover uninsured kids. With all of this attention from the national leaders of the party, am I the only one wondering if Seattle hasn’t entered some kind of strange time warp? It feels more than a little like February 2004, when Kerry and Dean were still battling mano a mano in Seattle for the Democratic presidential nomination, rather than April 2005, when morose Dems find themselves slouching towards irrelevance. That is probably more than coincidence. The election may be long lost, but in this era of the permanent campaign, the slugfest goes on. It’s a championship bout between the heavy-punching Dean and the dancing Kerry. The title at stake? Supreme leader of the Democratic Party, at least until a new presidential frontrunner (okay, Hillary) emerges after the 2006 election.”-Sandeep Kaushik in today’s new Stranger. Thanks for the plug, ole buddy, but I’m not sure I buy the “battle” story.
Would Boosters take a minute and go to The Kentucky Herald Leader and take the poll on mountain top removal? Some interesting comments on it too. It is almost 2 to 1 strongly disagree, let’s make it 10-1!
Has Bush lived up to his promise?
Well, it does seem foreign policy is entirely foreign to him.

I did, and I did and I will, to answer all your questions in order.
You can also put it on world diary, for others to notice and maybe on the regional threads.
Here is another link to the diary.

BTW Aloha, did you see my big thank you to all of you who helped me the other day, it’s on the world thread.
Thanks Diane so much. Turtle will appreciate your help. I haven’t been over to world for a couple days. Will check it out. have a great night.
Woot! Indeed Leezy, indeed – we’re over $1,350 now, and my girlfriend & school’s principal are ECSTATIC – will post more over on Kos in an update.
Thanks again, Boo, for the chance to post here, and for the recommend over at Kos – helpin’ keep it up all night, I think maybe…
No problem, I didn’t see the request to front-page it until hours later. I’m glad you are having a lot of success.
Thanks Booman…you’re the greatest!

See this CSM commentary. Take it on, if you’d like, in a diary. It’ll give you lots to work with.
