Been trying to get on to daily kos…says it’s down…anyone else having a problem. Booman..have you noticed if you are getting more traffic? btw/ our troll from last night over there has been banned. No if’s and’s or but’s…he’s banned.
weird diaries going on last night…one was a diarist taking great joy and celebrating that some rightwing female has cancer…it was truly disgusting. The other was about Ann Coulter getting $#@!^& in the ass, hard. Booman was around and read them also. It was crazy titles and talk..they have both been erased..as they should have been.
I haven’t been able to get on since about 3PM. Does anyone remember the numbered address (can’t remember the name of it) that we used to sign in the last time it was down?
Thought that this was a good time to tryout my account here. I sign on to dkos under hopscotch 1997.
Anyway, are you talking about Reality Based Joe? I didn’t think his diary about outsourcing was that bad last night. He kept his cool and there was some good discussion. Not ideal behavior, but I didn’t think it was trollish exactly.
FWIW: My average mojo on dKos is way down since Joe showed up. I’m not claiming that I deserve better, only that there is a substantial change before vs. after. My fault for choosing such a generic name, I guess. I don’t actually care what my ratings are, but I suspect that they are partly a measure of how frequently and seriously my posts are read, and who knows, I may have something important to say someday.
That would be the RealityBasedJoe mentioned in the comment to which I was replying. He’s been trolling over at dKos. Most of his initial comments were troll rated, then he seemed to pull back just enough to avoid being banned.
there also? Some banning went on over there last night. It was the first time I have emailed kos ever, about trolls or anything. Woke up this morning to a reply from Kos. Target distroyed.
esteemed part…but yeah…i am Chamonix. I was just over there and gave a 1 to your arch enemy for a ridiculous comment he posted in Welshman’s current diary. I cannot believe how slow kos is these days. I think we signed up over there about the same time. I am watching Al Gore kick some evil monkey butt on CSpan right now. It reminds me what might have been. So..so…sad.
On a wall at home I have a topo map of the Massif du Mont Blanc that includes the town of Chamonix. It would be a great retreat from US politics if it wasn’t so expensive. In 1996 I used a coin-op laundry there that charged 30ff for a wash load.
You got it…Best skiing in the world. Combloux & Chamonix….Nobody around these parts have no idea where it is except you…I go every year…At the base of the amazing Mt Blanc..most people know it as the Mountian on the Evian bottle. Where do you live? When Clinton was in office (exchange rate) I would get around $1.33, this past Jan. I got .80 pathetic cents. ugggggh. I have a poster on my wall also…I was looking at it last Nov. when I signed up at Dkos, and that was the name I picked..I love France and their people, I knew the Repugs and BushCo hate them. I was also looking forward to going there in Jan. I looked at the poster and Voila.
What’s striking about Chamonix and Mont Blanc is the vertically integrated assembly of so much cool stuff. I’ve lived most of my life in the Pacific Northwest. We have many of the elements independently: rugged alpine country in the North Cascades and BC Coast Range, high elevation glaciers on Mt. Ranier, restaurants in Seattle, Portland, and Vancouver. But we don’t have anything that puts it all together like that.
If I had the time and resources to hang out in Chamonix I’d take up paragliding (or parapenting as they usually call it there). Climbing peaks on the massif and paragliding down– what could be better than that?
Sounds awesome….Perhaps I will try. Pacific Northwest is Cool though, except for all the rain. Love Vancouver also. While I’m not skiing the french alps or hanging with Friends in NYC…I am stuck in LA.
If I ever run into you over there, I’ll rate you up. Maybe that will help some. Joe almost sounds like two different people. He can be coherent sometimes, but then like an obnoxious idiot other times.
Thanks for the offer, but there’s no need to rate me up. I’m still a TU there, and I rarely use those privileges anyway (although it was through hidden comments that I first noticed Joe). It’s more of a curiosity on the side effects of trollery. Also I haven’t actually done the statistics yet to test my hypothesis– how embarrassing, given my handle!
As to Joe’s dual personality, I think the two people are:
a) A person who wants to disrupt dKos.
b) A person who wants to avoid being banned, so that he can continue to be (a).
I didn’t think his diary about outsourcing was that bad last night. He kept his cool and there was some good discussion. Not ideal behavior, but I didn’t think it was trollish exactly
Actually, in really weird way, I thought it was better because of him. As you say, his behavior was not trollish exactly – combative is the term that comes to mind. In my opinion he had not done a lot of research on the issue of offshoring itself, and so I think the original diary was created just to get a rise out of everybody. Definitely did that, pretty darn good diary though.
Leave it to dumbya, to want to make sure those before him are taken care of as far as executive powers….. Though most of us know that dumbya is not truly the power of the executive branch, Rove, Cheney and their ilk are truly mucking up the USA.
Yeah, dkos has been down since before noon here on the west coast. It was right after the thread about the nuc option live report from the senate floor. Guess Biden and Dodd really went to town once again. Also talk of a vote on that being put forth today. Anyone have any news on that?
Santorum is going at it right now, about the nuc option, losing his cool it looks like as he is yelling. Watched him in a Social Secuity hearing yesterday and he is quite obnoxious.
He’s mine too. Unfortunately. But I have divorced myself from him, and no longer consider him reachable. When I used to call his office, it was a nasty experience. Whoever would answer his phone, would start right away with arguing with the opinion I was trying to leave for him. They were sarcastic and nasty, and not in the least bit user friendly.
GOP Senator Warns of Electronic Bomb from Iran
Recently a Senate Judiciary subcommittee of which I am chairman held a hearing on a major threat to the American people, one that could come not only from terrorist organizations such as al Qaeda but from rogue nations such as Iran and North Korea.
An electromagnetic pulse (EMP) attack on the American homeland, said one of the distinguished scientists who testified at the hearing, is one of only a few ways that the United States could be defeated by its enemies — terrorist or otherwise. And it is probably the easiest. A single Scud missile, carrying a single nuclear weapon, detonated at the appropriate altitude, would interact with the Earth’s atmosphere, producing an electromagnetic pulse radiating down to the surface at the speed of light. Depending on the location and size of the blast, the effect would be to knock out already stressed power grids and other electrical systems across much or even all of the continental United States, for months if not years…link
Pope Warns of Harry Potter Danger
New Pope BENEDICT XVI has blasted JK ROWLING’s HARRY POTTER books for “undermining the soul of Christianity”.
Nicknamed ‘GOD’S ROTTWEILER’, Pope Benedict is set to confuse Catholics across the world because his predecessor JOHN PAUL II praised the multi-millionairess for her Christian lifestyle.
Benedict, formerly CARDINAL JOSEPH RATZINGER is grateful to HARRY POTTER – GOOD OR BAD author GABRIELE KUBY for revealing the hidden agendas behind the popular children’s books.
He says, “It is good that you explain the facts of Harry Potter, because this is a subtle seduction, which has deeply unnoticed and direct effects in undermining the soul of Christianity before it can really grow properly.”

Some Iraqis Much Better Off, Thanks to US!
“With every victim that falls to an explosion and suicide attack, the demand for coffins increases and my work flourishes,” said the coffin-maker in his tiny shop in the heart of the war-torn capital.
Several people have been killed on the doorsteps of Mohammed’s shop on the notorious Haifa Street, now an eerie no-go zone where a few nervous motorists speed past, only too aware that the insurgents’ favoured tactics include roadside bombs. American snipers keep watch from the rooftops.
“During the days of Saddam (Hussein), I used to make one coffin a day. Now, I make scores of them and the demand increases with every suicide car bomb that explodes,” said the 67-year-old Baghdadi…….link
Mystery Disease Killing Afghan Livestock
A mystery disease has killed more than 6,000 animals in Afghanistan’s northeastern province of Badakhshan in the past two weeks, an official said on Sunday.
Authorities are waiting for test results, carried out by foreign aid workers, to find the cause of the epidemic, said Engineer Mohammad Hassan, chief of the agriculture and husbandry department of Badakhshan.
“It is a very strange type of disease, which locals call animal plague,” Hassan told Reuters in Faizabad, the provincial capital of Badakhshan.
“So far more than 6,000 animals, largely goats, sheep and cows, have perished as a result of the outbreak,” he said.

I decided to look at some German sites, and the important detail missing in the linked version is that the comment is two years old. It was made at a time when he was the Enforcer, so to speak. Ms. Kuby, however, has placed that endorsement high up on her site. Perhaps she hopes to generate coat-tail publicity, who knows?
I’d be careful, as Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger seemed to me more of a Loyalist than a Conservative. He had little convictions of his own, other than enforcing the will of God as revealed to the Pope. I suspect that now that he himself is Benedict, he feels a philosophical emptiness within himself. Perhaps he seeks consensus because he has lost the ability to form his own opinion…
I suspect he won’t find out about it, as he has a full plate at the moment just settling into the job. Even then, he may blow it off as not important.
Bebedict doesn’t think he has a lot of time to sit on Saint Peter’s throne. If there is a revision, expect it to come from the cardinal he appoints to take his old job of grand inquisitor*…
*I can never remember the new, modern name of that post
In other words the text box, while it allows DIV’s, Paragraph, Anchors, and so on, it does not seem to allow

, (replacing the square brackets with angle brackets of course). The Table elements and the text they contain just show up as plain text.
I have tried it, maybe I am just doing something wrong. Everything else of what is a fairly complex bit of HTML works, with the exception of the tables.
Many thanks for any help here, again maybe I am just missing something.
That is odd, isn’t it. Every Web designer uses Table tags constantly. Let me think about it. One odd workaround would be to do a table on a Web page and take a screen shot, then post it as an image.
One constraint is that it’s best not to go beyond 400 pixels in a diary.
What is strange is that tables work on dKos. Both sites use Scoop so I was wondering if this was something configurable in Scoop. I know nothing about Scoop beyond its core ingredients and so kinda’ just threw it out there.
It was weird to me that there was a specific ‘Allowed HTML’.
If it is going to take a lot of hacking around I am sorry that I even mentioned it.
Oh BTW, when it comes to computers and computer software, my manners just go out the window. I become kind of single minded. Women have left me because of this :-).

Would it be possible to allow HTML Tables in Diary entries?
welcome to the site.
Can you elaborate on what you mean by HTML tables a little?
In the ‘Allowed HTML:’
In other words the text box, while it allows DIV’s, Paragraph, Anchors, and so on, it does not seem to allow

, (replacing the square brackets with angle brackets of course). The Table elements and the text they contain just show up as plain text.

I know — it’s “tongue depressors”! That’ll protect him from getting language seizures.
