With “a full page ad in Thursday’s New York Times taken out by The Turtle Bay Restoration Project,” environmentalists nationwide are pressuring Safeway to “clearly label fish as a potential carrier of high levels of the toxic liquid metal” mercury, reports NewStandardNews.
You can write a letter to Safeway. Personally, I’m boycotting seafood until the fishing industry gets its act together.
I’d participate but I’m already boycotting Safeway since they are a red company.
As an officer and advocate for buyblue.org – Safeway has been on my ‘no buy list’ for more than 6 months or more. We went from 80% shopping there to less than 10%. Safeway info: http://www.buyblue.org/detail.php?corpId=57
Are there other fish markets / chains to watch for?
I try to buy from my local butcher and farmers market so if I have more info I can ask them where they get their fish.
Thanks for the diary…
We try to buy local / organic. But Safeway is about our only choice for handy purchases, besides Albertson’s, where we don’t have to use two gallons of gas. Is Albertson’s better? That’s the only other major grocery in town.
