Hi and welcome to everybody!
This makes Welcome Wagon Diary #18 and, boy, has this been an exciting week!
I came over here just a few days ago and already it feels like home. Well, a 27-inch plasma screen home, but home nonetheless!
I guess I’ll tell you all a little bit about me and then, hopefully, any newbies will jump on in and introduce themselves and keep the lovefest hopping.
I’d like to report that I’m 19 years old, trim and fit, fabulously wealthy, and have my whole life mapped out in front of me. Unfortunately, 19 passed me by about 25 years ago and I’m still trying to figure out just what the heck to do with my life!
I am the mother of four, ages 24, 20, 17 and 15. I’ve had several jobs in my life, but not a career. I’ve been poor, I’ve suffered on occasion from depression, I’ve had to struggle to stay afloat, and I’ve lived much of my life without health insurance. So issues of mental health, poverty and health care, as well as the war in Iraq and the possibility of a draft, are the ones that I tend to focus my energies on these days. I am a newshound (aren’t we all?) and I am an incurable writer of letters to the editor….the first published when I was just 8 years old. It was about clubbing baby seals. Um, I was against it. 🙂 Aside from that I am not as politically active as I should be and I hope to change that and to get motivated from the inspiring diaries I read here on Booman.
So, what brings you here?

Boy Second you are spot on. We might have a lot in common, I have 5 kids, ages 42,40,30,25,23(2 men and 3 women. I hope I have all their ages right, usually I am off on one or the other. But that’s better than when I called them by a siblings name. Hey it’s a lot of names to remember.
Second, would you mind copying and pasting the past diaries into the diary itself, the list is at the top of the last one.

If you can’t, but what you do if you don’t already know is just to highlight the areas you want to copy, then right click on highlighted area, then click copy, go the place you want to insert it and click paste.
I want to tell you how to do a block quote, but when I try to post it, it makes a block quote or a line, no matter how I try to do it. I even did it backwards and it still made a box. So maneegee, or someone should post how to do it.

What a fabulous way to join the site – not only taking a shift on the welcome wagon, but using it as a vehicle to introduce yourself and making others feel more comfortable in doing the same. Welcome to you, and thanks for immediately contributing to the success of the site.
(Although. . .I shamefully admit. . .ya almost lost me at your initial fabricated bio. Yes, I can be shallow at times, but the first step toward recovery is admitting I have a problem. . .or maybe even two. ;^) 19, wealthy and fit – be gone with you! (kidding, of course, even if it had been true!)

Wow, luckily my oldest son’s name starts with an “O” so when I begin to call one of the younger ones by his name (as I usually do)it just sounds like an irish surname…O’Ryan, O’Colin….O’Ben.

all these fireworks and champagne are making me really dizzy. Never could handle a little partying. But the colors are so pretty! Shirl, you and your photos at the ready really impress me!
Okay Laura,. . .let me push you into the Frog Pond for a quick refresher. . . Their doesn’t that feel better?
The problem seems to be every time you look up at the fireworks you use economy of motion and put your champagne glass to your lips and so there ya go. . .one or the other, girl friend, one or the other.
Oh yeah, that dip in the frog pond really did feel good. And, I saw several of my old boyfriends down there.
Don’t tell me you got cornered by that same guy who kept saying he was a Prince. . .brother. . .needs a new line, I think.
Well, you know you have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find your prince. I keep telling my husband that but he still gets mad when I kiss the UPS guy.

Yeah, husbands seem to be like that, but I am sure the UPS guy thinks it’s aokay! I’ve had it a little easier, I just run around hugging and kissing everyone. Seems to work for me. . . (course they just never know. . .heh heh. . .what little plots I may be plotting).
One of the funniest things, The day I retired, my last day at work, one of my favorite guys came in just to wish me luck and all that. . .And having no impulse control (apparently) I hopped up on the counter (Postal worker, in case you didn’t know) and gave him a kiss. Geeze. . .sparks flew. . .kinda a surprise for an old sister of sophia, dauther of lesbos)
We both were stunned, and then we started to laugh. He must be at least 20 years younger than me. . .not that that would matter. . .just the whole scene was too funny! And why is it they never sound so funny when you retell them?
So, all in all, sorry about all the frogs, and kissing and stuff. . .but I didn’t have to do that one. There were several sleeping beauties I never could wake up. . .but that’s another story.

Ahhh, where indeed do I find them. . .it is a 10,000 year old secret of the Monks of Frogdom. . .Frogmasters from long ago left ancient text on the back of dried lily pads and only a true initiate could translate them. . .I being the Shirl of the Stars was blessed to be the one to unlock the secrests of knowledge concerning all things Frogs and all things photos on the internet(s). My screenname – Well, a few years back I had some personal and medical issues that really took a toll on me and my family. Through medical, psychiatric and spiritual help I have been able to get through the dark times. I learned a lot about myself as a person. I was and am a lot stronger than I thought. It just took awhile to get there. After a while I felt like I had not just changed as a person, but that I had evolved. Hence, Mariposa. In spanish it means: Butterfly.

I’ve been lurking for a while, having a very busy spell in my various freelance professions (music, web design, Mac troubleshooting, writing.) I got here via dkos and also by following SusanHu, who posts to ProgressiveTalk where I’ve been a member for a long time.
I am the daughter of an activist mom who is still going strong in her mid-70’s. I have a homeschooled 14 year old daughter of indomitable spirit. I live in central NH, do various activist work whenever I can, and do some GLBTQSO/inclusive community organizing — thus my username.
I am interested in open source processes and profound systemic change: window dressing will not get us through the upcoming changes.

Yes I was serious, but I take your point you are unused to people’s names and who they are. But it is easy to tell if someone is new by checking the uid and of course if they write a bio then it doesn’t matter if they are new or old, they are introducing themselves.

No idea. There was a time when B&J was available in the US, but not anywhere in Canada. It coincided with a period of time when I was dating some #&@ in Florida. I’ve always wondered if I would have put up with him for so long, and kept going back so frequently if B&J had been available where I lived.
So if it is of a much higher quality somewhere else in the world – please, for god’s sakes, don’t tell me about it – there’s no telling what I’d do.
I’ve got a pint of B&J’s Half Baked frozen yogurt that’s calling to me from the freezer…but I’m holding out till tomorrow night, because tomorrow morning I’ve got to hop on the scale at the doctor’s office and get the standard, “eat less, exercise more” speech… 🙁

Hi, well… testing the waters of the pond… looks like a nice place to spend the day.
I’ll be 27 tomorrow, born and raised in Memphis Tennessee, came to Colorado to go to college and never left.
I’ve been a glass blower, a writer, a rental agent, an office manager, an after-school teacher and now trying to break into real-estate.
I’ve been practicing at http://screamingme.blogspot.com/ so come on over and see me. Due to my pending wedding in little more than a month, I won’t have TOO much to offer until after that lovely event, but come say hi anyway, and PLEASE leave a comment! I hate screaming into an empty well.
