Rumsfeld Faces Questions on Troops in Iraq

(Cross posted at DailyKos)

Ha! Fooled you! There’s nothing here that says that Rumsfeld has responded to any tough questions about troops in Iraq… Now before you go and get all mad at me, let me just say that I was fooled too!

Believe it or not, this is the actual title for this little tidbit in NYT today. Turns out that Rummy is heading up the hill today to face some questions about training Iraqi security forces… not happened yet… no real news here…

The entire article reads like a conglomeration of quotes from both sides of the issue that one of our own bloggers here at DKOs or BMT could have done a better job of… Oh, and perhaps a little off topic, but a splashy picture of Rummy shaking hands with the Vietnamese prime minister yesterday:

Being one of the opinion that a picture is worth a thousand words… what’s up with this?!?
Is this a further pictoral presentation of both sides of the story… Iraq is Vietnam!… no it’s not!… yes it is!… I mean, righties could infer that this clearly shows that Vietnam is over, end of discussion, while lefties could revel in the sheer irony of the juxtaposed war implications… and both could get mad at the other point of view… But… nothing to do with Rummy answering questions…

Honestly, I can see now how some Kossacks and Tribbets get a little upset about having their time wasted with misleading titles… but hey, this seems to be SOP with the pros, nowadays, and this article reads about like a diary entry… Things are getting pretty blurry…

I always try to salvage something from every situation though… I thought the quote from Senator Dole(granted probably out of context) was pretty humorous:

And Sen. Elizabeth Dole, R-N.C., said the assertion made by some that U.S. troops have done all that they can is wrong.

“We have made tremendous advances, but there is much more to be done before throwing our hands up in the air,” she said.

With the implication, of course that no matter what we do we will inevitably have to throw our hands up in the air… I hope we don’t have to wait so long that many more of our service men and women won’t have hands to throw up in the air there, Libby…

Oh… another redeeming point! The reporter links to a cool DOD website at http://www.defense.gov/” where there are tons of taxpayer funded propaganda pics like this one that I can have some fun with 🙂
