I have started a blog dedicated to promoting non-fiction (and not for children) print-on-demand books that people are, more and more, publishing themselves.
The point is to help writers side-step the traditional publishing industry. Today, it’s extremely hard to get an agent, let alone get anything published–unless someone, someplace thinks it could be a million-seller.
Eventually POD will develop the means of promotion necessary for readers, innundated by the sheer number of titles, to decide just what they want to buy–and to be able to do it with confidence that the quality of the writing and research (if it is non-fiction) will be high.
I’m trying to help this start in a small way. Right now, I’m placing the authors’ descriptions of the books on the site and asking for comments from those who have read them. Eventually, I want to find people who will actually review the books–but that will have to wait a bit.
Many POD writers have their own web sites or pages on their publishers’ sites (this is what I have done for my own POD books). But we need to move away from pages controlled by the writers and publishers to pages that can develop a higher level of reader trust through their independent nature.
Please visit the site. If you have a POD book of your own and would like to see it on the site, or have read one you would like to review, please let me know.
And don’t worry: I’m not trying to make any money out of this.
