For months now (since December, 2004) I have been writing a weekly email Progressive Democrat newsletter that has a pretty decent circulation around the country. Specific editions now exist for Virginia, NYC and New Jersey as well as a National edition. The National edition has also been archived by the kind invitation of the Mid-Hudson Alliance. Many people love the old fashioned email newletter format, but many others have been strongly urged me to blog the newsletter. Well, finally I have started to do just that. More below.
My efforts grew out of the need after the 2004 election to encourage and comfort some activists who I had organized from the Republican Convention days through to the election. Our efforts had been quite intense–raising money, yelling at Republican delegates, participating in a documentary filmed by a crew from Spain’s Canal+. After the apparantly stolen…or at least dubious…election, many looked to me to find the silver lining and the plan for the future. In trying to help them, I found my own inspiration and started putting my thoughts and efforts together into a newsletter. Originally aimed at NYC, it quickly gained a national readership that is still growing, albeit slowly, mainly by word of mouth. Now, pushed hard by some loyal readers who are more tech savvy than I am, it is time to add a blog version to my original email newsletter.
I am only now learning how to put together the blog, so it is currently tough to BOTH write the newsletter AND blog it, but this way I can reach the widest audience. Already many Kossacks subscribe to the email version and have commented on it here on Daily Kos. But I am hoping that many more will visit my blog and, those who have blogs of their own, may want to link to it. Some groups are trying to help me get a feed going as well.
So Mole’s Progressive Democrat Newsletter now enters a new phase and one that I hope will bring many new readers. My goal in the newsletter is to help people who want to become more active in fighting the Repubs and/or who want to reform the Dem party from within can find information on what they can do and what is going on. I have been very surprised at the warm reception my efforts have received around the nation.
So, please check out my new blog, Mole’s Progressive Democrat, or check out my national edition on the Mid-Hudson Alliance website, or email me (see my profile for my email) to subscribe to the email version. By joining my readership you will be joining many progressives from DFA, the Kerry campaign, Congressional campaigns past and present, indivduals from deep in Red States, and many others who together write letters to the editor, make donations and join their local clubs and meetups to retake their country.
Thank you for letting me plug my own efforts and I hope you join me.
I’ve been getting your newsletter for a few months now, and I like how informative and chatty it is. I sometimes don’t have the time to run around gathering information (and I am easily distracted by something else interesting along the way), so it’s good to have all this stuff in one place, in the email.
And now the blog as well, although if you are still going to do the email (that is a bit unclear) I’ll probably stick with that, but will link to the blog as well, once I start building a blog list again.
Thanks for the info.
Lotsa folks have been urging me to blog. But I also greatly prefer to stick with the email newsletter. I think the more personal touch is important these days. I can’t tell you how many people email me in response to each newsletter. I think there are many readers who respond to my newsletter but would never visit the blog. So the email newsletter will continue. My problem is finding the time to do both. But I think I will be able to manage it at least for now.
Thanks for your kind comments and I am glad you find the newsletter useful.
