tomorrow’s return to daily 50’s/70’s as “Seattle hot.” It hit 84 twice at our house, once before 5, then it dropped back as an evening breeze filled in temporarily, and again an hour ago, just before 8 pm.
It’s an oven inside the house–literally, because with window fans exhausting, the air temperature is the same inside as out, but our big under-insulated front wall is radiating copious amounts of infrared at us. You can even block it and feel cooler by holding your hand in front of your face.
My poll was not meant to be quite so short, lol. The edit function doesn’t seem to want me to add:
Key lime pie
creme brulee
sushi
pasta
bacon
wedding cake
PB&J
Mom’s meatloaf
& Other.
That’s a well-balanced diet, right? The edit function must be a nutritionist, a very appalled nutritionist.
If a good sense of humor can cure you, it’s no wonder you’re feeling better. Glad to hear it, too. And if key lime pie isn’t the best source of vitamin C, I don’t want to know it.
I just finished watching an old episode of Charmed and am now awaiting the re-run of Six Feet Under which I have a minor addiction to; not on the same level as the nachos mentioned below, of course.
Just talk a walk in the cool cool cool of the evening. Am thinking about watching the most recent Battlestar Gallactica ep for the FOURTH time. What is wrong with me? That show hypnotizes me.
but only if there’s salsa or cheese or both to pour all over them. In fact, I’ve been addicted to home-made nachos lately and have been making them in the oven. Very technical stuff: pour chips on pizza sheet, dump on cheese and salsa, put in oven at 350 until the cheese is melted. I am hooked! =)
Chips with Salsa and Cheese is my current favorite food. Luckily I have a tiny custard bowl that I use for my salsa/cheese sauce. Otherwise, I could probably eat a bag a chips a night.
When I first read the poll I thought it meant chocolate or chocolate chips-guess that tells you which food group I like best.
I’m reading Geneen Roth’s books about ending compulsive eating and one of the things she recommends is to figure out what you’re hungry for to be really satisfied-it’s working for me so far. Today I bought fresh raspberries, blueberries, nectarines and cherries at the fruit stand but couldn’t locate any yogurt to go with it so I used what was in the fridge: cottage cheese, milk and OJ with some sugar added, whipped up in the blender-WOW! Better than yogurt!
Now it’s time for some of Mama Nature’s most perfect food: popcorn. And not that microwave stuff either (but it will do in a pinch).
and it looked pretty darn good, as the review I read had suggested it would be. Steven Bochco has done great work in the past, and it looks like he may be on to something with this one. It repeats in 90 minutes, so we’re going to give it another shot and I can form a better opinion.
Sadly, 30 days by Morgan Spurlock is no longer on — I enjoyed the concept, and the execution. Probably could have done without the steroids episode, but the Muslim and Gay episodes were excellent. Oh, and the minimum wage — well, I guess 5 out of 6 is pretty good!
My wife can’t wait for Nip/Tuck to begin again, though … she is very apprehensive about the rumors about Dr. Christian Troy leaving the show.
From Morgan Spurlock’s blog (you have to scroll down to June 22):
June 22, 2005
Get Pumped Up on Wednesday (June 22nd)
Tonight on “30 Days” we examine the issue of aging and steroid use in America.
When you hear steroids, you probably think of some juiced up bodybuilder or some baseball player testifying before congress, but in U.S. millions of people take steroids everyday to get back to their “Glory Days.”
In tonight’s episode, we follow Scott, a former aquatic prodigy looking to get back to the good ‘ol days, as he dives head first into a regimen of human growth hormones, testosterone and nutritional supplements.
SPOILER ALERT
Basically, the guy was looking to turn back the clock and lose his gut. Morgan examined how easy it is to get just about any kind of steroid in Mexico — although this episode did utilize the services of a doctor who specializes in an anti-aging regimen. The guy’s health deteriorated so quickly, he did not make it through the 30 days — luckily his health returned after stopping the program.
Knowing F/X, the 30 days episodes (six) will repeat, and there is a DVD set coming. I am pretty sure the ratings were going well, and they are going to do more episodes. Morgan Spurlock is a real talent — connects well with young ‘uns — my 22 year old son hesitates when driving by McDonald’s now, after watching Super Size Me.
I’M GONNA HAVE TO WATCH IT NOW. I DON’T WATCH A WHOLE LOT OF TV BUT GOD, IT ISN’T AS IF YOU HAVEN’T GIVEN ME EVERY AVAILABLE OPPORTUNITY TO VIEW THE DAMN THING. WHAT THE HELL, I’LL EVEN TIVO IT TO MAKE SURE I GET IT!
Two and one-half Sam Adams Cherry Wheat down and one PTSD suffering spouse abed with a tad bit of Trazadone. A good night’s sleep produces an amazing human product after a good war gone wrong! My husband stopped off at the class six on the way home, which is where alcohol is sold on a military base or post. He phoned me about some wine labeled Tisdale Vineyards being DISGUSTINGLY on sale for like $2.80 a bottle. I looked it up and not a lot to be found but this article http://www.citypages.com/wineanddine/2004/. My husband bought a bottle of Cabernet and a bottle of Shiraz. We opened the CAB and it was clean and intense black cherry and plum and no pepper I could smell at all……smelled juvenile and tasted a bit juvey too, but not bad……..in a really good French kind of juvey wine way. So out with the goods, I am a wino and I know my vino. Tisdale is selling for around 3.99 for 2002 in the real world. Buy a bunch of this if you are also a wino or an appreciator of great vinos with a small budget. When we first married my husband bought me this THING from Sharper Image called a Vintage Enhancer. I don’t even know if they still sell the thing but we put the Juvey in the Vintage Enhancer which does some ION thing for however long you set it for and this wine came out FABULOUS (AGED). He has been SPOUSAL ORDERED to buy all of the available $2.80 a bottle Tisdale he can find tomorrow, nobody in Alabama will miss it! I’m thinking that what this wine costs per bottle is going to start heading upward and I am seldom wrong on this. Some horse whisperers can call their horses and some Wino’s can call their wines. It’s an inside tip but buy Tisdale! Offset the extra expense of your petroleum.
Hey if you guys aren’t busy over here, hop on over to my site Village Blue, as linked in tag, and tell us your most embarrasing moments….
Also there is a new diary up called Dear One, I have a problem, that you all might be interested in..

No wonder I go on about my tragic loveless love life… I end up sitting alone in this spooky cafe in your wee hours which are my early dawn… wondering will I ever get served? will true love ever happen again? will the Loved One wake up and smell the French Roast? Will peace on earth break out like a rash of chicken pox? Will I ever stop being concerned about the UN falling to shit and the cracks in the Marc Chagall windows? Will I ever get paid for that last job I did? Will I ever lose that last 45 pounds and fit into the dark black suit again???
I’m still here too, if only for a few more minutes…
I’ve got to get to bed soon; need to get up early so I can get back into a routine, even with it being shot to hell till the spouse gets back to work. Going to try and get up at 5am, go for a 15 minute walk (starting out at 15, eventually will work up to 45 minutes), then come back, shower, dress, and work on writing for a bit (my Muse has been dormant since my mom’s illness and death, but is showing signs of awakening and getting ready to bite me in the ass…).
Hope you have a peaceful day across the Pond… 🙂
I predict that you will lose my weight before I do, and you will write great things…. Do you know Julia Cameron “The Artist’s Way?”
My mother died seven years ago, and my dad 20 years ago, and there is not a day goes by that I do not go inside and find another treasure, dust it off, and look at it in the light of love, understanding and FORGIVENESS… which means for myself first… because I did not recognize those treasured moments and sayings and looks and happenings while they were happenning….
But my friend and writing partner Ray says that before he goes to sleep every night he remembers THREE memories for each of his parents, something he had not remembered before… Isn’t that a lovely prayer?
You are a treasure, and I treasure you IN THE NOW!!
Here is another list of who I love:
The Loved One. I love the Loved One for not loving me, so I could live loveless long enough to not sleep long enough to try and find something worth living for, and to go back to work. I am going out to buy a dozen free range eggs and a hat pin. I am going to post these carefully packaged eggs to the Loved One. Upon opening a terrible smell will waft out, and a note will fall to the floor which says:
I love this so much. It’s funny on so many levels, including the one where you can’t help buying free range even for revenge. If I ever run my car into a bridge abutment (no, no, really I won’t), the car will certainly be either a hybrid or get excellent mileage.
We’re looking at a beautiful cool night in Kansas City, how about where you are?
Please unrecommend the previous diary
& recommend this one.

How about All Of The Above?
lol! Now that’s my kind of diet.
So how’s your health, kb?
Almost perfect. Thanks for asking. Do you think my diet could be part of the problem? Maybe keylime pie isn’t the best source of vitamin C?
If a good sense of humor can cure you, it’s no wonder you’re feeling better. Glad to hear it, too. And if key lime pie isn’t the best source of vitamin C, I don’t want to know it.
(The cafe never runs out.)
I don’t either. Can I have two slices?
(The two you ordered, plus one to grow on.)
You’re the best waitress in the world, kansas. I’m going to leave you a gigantic tip!
ooooo
I just saw the meatloaf!!!
I luuuvvvv meatloaf!
and keylime pie for dessert. ummm 🙂
Katie bird, I think you love this poll toooo much.
We’re a weird group. Almost everyone is voting for chips (including me).
I might be identifying too closely with the BB Houseguests. They’ve been on PB&J all week and it’s making them a little crazy.
We ARE weird. I never would have predicted that. Well, I mean I might have predicted we were weird. . .just not that we’d pick chips.

Quite the gourmet chef there, ME. It’s all in the wrist, I’m sure.
and the hips, you gotta be sure to have the mariachi music or cumbias cranked up so you can baila.
lol! We really do need music in the cafe tonight.

Popcorn was supposed to be on my poll, too.
I can’t stand microwave pc, except for ACT II “Old Fashioned Natural.” I am addicted to it. So’s my mom. But it has to be that particular one.
I’m addicted to the Act II Kettle Korn. mmmmmmmm

May I have an Irish Mist please, a double, to spare you the trip…. and who left that pile of old books on the corner table…. can I have a peruse?
I’ve been looking everywhere for a couple of out of print books. Please let me make sure they aren’t there?
I’ve spent hours tonight going to every used book web site I can find, but these books are not available anywhere I can find.
OK,OK you get the first going over… but if there are REAL books in the REAL world you need, I have a few REAL suppliers, if you will REALLY e mail me.
Now, a drink, you bookie!

sleep well, and enjoy your dawn routine.
I saw “The Artist’s Way” mentioned in another post on another blog; definitely will check into it.
And I know I can lose the weight — a few years back I actually lost 50 pounds, but stress eating caused them to creep back on slowly and insidiously.
Okay, now I’m going to bed; since I slept most of the day with my horrible headache, I can probably get by with only about 5-6 hours…I hope. 🙂
