I’m on the first day of my 2 week vacation — And I’m so happy!
I’ve got no particular plans, I’m just happy to be unscheduled for a while.
Hi Katiebird, happy saturday to you and good for you starting your vacation.
It’s so nice to get up and find your cafe open, what are you serving today.
Virtually everything!
Well in that case I will have strawberry blintzes, and kona coffee, can you ‘virtually serve that!

Lets go have a picnic, outside!
I’m sorry for the delay — I’ve been working on a $5.00 rebate offer.
We used to have hotdog parties afterwork everyday.
This is a picture of him waiting for his share of the hotdog.
Katie is this a real dog, if so he/she is so cute sitting there at your table, ‘just adorable.’
Oh, yes! He was the realist of dogs! He would just sit there waiting for his hotdog treats, with only that little paw tapping impatiently.
So cute!
Happy vacation, Katie!
Oh! Gotta go. My son just walked downstairs and I didn’t even know he had spent the night here. Yay! Sons!
Yay! Sons! Indeed. Ours just walked in the house about 15 minutes ago. He’s already asleep on the couch!
Funny, you both said that and a few minutes later my son,Jon, 25 walked in and threw himself down on my couch, and closed his eyes and I talked to him wondering if he was sleeping while I was talking away.
He grunted a few responses, appeared to sleep for a few minutes, then got up and went outside to do some work.
I don’t know about other sons, but mine is always tired from working too much and staying up too late and I mother worry about him.
But I ‘love’ him so much!!!!!!!Wouldn’t trade him, at least not today! <smiles here>
I opened 100 packs of “Chinese Fortune Tea” and not a single one of them had a fortune in it!
Enjoy your vacation!
We haven’t taken a 2 week vacation in 12 years or more. We’re hoping that by next summer my craft business will be organized and predictable enough that we can do a full week to 10 days.
I’m at a use it or lose it point. I’m going to lose 20 days if I don’t use them this year. This 2 weeks takes care 10. And I’m hoping to use 5 more at the end of October.
Did you hear the story about the Powerball Tickets?
has to take all his vacation (and floating holidays) every year — union rules. A person can petition to work during a planned vacation to earn extra money (get paid time and a half for working during vacation), but it’s usually denied unless there’s major extenuating circumstances (such as family illness that puts financial pressures on employee); the union doesn’t want it to become a habit. So, even though the spouse is off work sick right now, we’ll still be taking our vacation trip to SoCal in four weeks. Sounds weird, I know…but it’s one benefit of union membership. π
I remember studies about people being afraid to take vacation time, because they feared their employer would replace them if they took all the time they were entitled to — that really sucks.
‘Nuff said on that subject…
A simple capucchino for me, thanks. Congrats on starting the vacation, I vaguely recall what that was like. Hope you’ve got at least one cool trip planned!
Here you are!
We’re hoping to go to SF in October, but for now, both are mothers are in the hospital. So, we’re sticking around.
And, actually that’s a good thing I’ve got some programming projects to work on anyway. And housework that’s been ignored for too long.
Actually, I don’t know if this is a sunrise or a sunset…but it works either way…have a great day…
Later
Peace
mmmmm! Perfect!
complain about my garden here, since there is no gardening diary.
You might remember all the probs. I have had with the critters eating my plants, tomatos, etc.
Well this morning I check my seedllings of new tomatos I just started, which were about 7 inches tall and just starting to grow. This moning one plant was completely gone, and two other plants were chewed to nubs..
I think I am going to have to put a cage around my entire garden.
Here’s a lovely morning view of the 115-foot schooner Adventuress hoisting sail off Port Townsend in weather very much like today’s.
This is the scale of boat that could have enough all-weather passenger capacity for ferry use. And just look at all those gorgeous solar power engines!
Mrs. Gooserock shoots Adventuress at a Port Townsend dock as a new sail-training crew learns the ropes. -Er, “lines.”
What a cutie, KatieBird π
I saw an incredible show last night Folkways: A Vision Shared a Tribute to Woody Guthrie & LeadBelly.
It had Bono, Springsteen, Emmylou, Willie Nelson, Dylan, Melloncamp, Taj Mahal, Little Richard… all singing the original songs.
These folk singers were the beginning for so many songwriters. The counterculture that sang to children as well.
It blew me away. I’m buying it now. The DVD and CD. So many of their songs are so valid for today.
Guthrie had a guitar that had “This machine kills faschists” on it.
He sand how if we could send ships with bombs why couldn’t we send ships with food and clothing….
I noticed that all of those who were giving tribute to both singers, were carrying on with the activism.
Incredible.
Janet, I so agree with you about the songs of the late 60’s and early 70’s fit right in today..
http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008_ZNfox000‘ target=’_blank’>
because truth, heart and compassion and honesty are timeless. I recently discovered Phil Ochs, too. OMG!
Found the Folkways: The Original VisionL Songs of Woody Guthrie and Leadbelly (cd with bonus tracks) via Mother Jones ad π
a folk music oldies station. Too much thinking.
Bono said something about radio. He said the songs out there on radio don’t have anything to say. It’s all the same song mostly. Meant to put people “to sleep”.
Woody’s music not only had something to say but it helped give you ideas on how to live.
I found a greater appreciation for their music because I am learning more and more about their activism.
We used to sing Guthrie and Dylan in elementary school. If I had a hammer, Blowing in the wind, This land is your land… They don’t sing those songs anymore.
Now there’s hardly any music in schools.
may I please have a coffee Jamieson, and where’s infidel pig??? anyone heard from him lately?
I saw him over in Roseeriter’s diary this morning, suskind.
Katie? Could I bother you to tell me how to insert a link? No hurry. Thanks!
The quick & dirty way is just to type the hyperlink in your comment, with the “http://“ in front of it; it will automatically be turned into a clickable link by Scoop. (In fact, it will do it for the example in the previous sample.) If you want to get fancy, you can use the
<a href=> </a>
code. That’ll make whatever text you put between the opening & closing tags into a hyperlink, pointing to the address you put after the href= part. Clear as mud, I suspect.I’m the one who was clear as mud, Bro. What I should have asked is. . .how do I make those short links, instead of the long ones? Something that says just “BooMan,” for instance, instead of the whole http: etc.
Will your directions above let me do that?
Yeah, you need to use the
<a href="">
construction. It’s near-impossible for me to illustrate in comments — my examples get turned into actual hyperlinks — but basically, you put the URL you want to put in after thehref=
in quotation marks, then you type in whatever filler text you want, then close the whole she-bang with</a>
. The filler text becomes your hyperlink to the address you put in the opening tag. In this sentence, for example, I can make these words a link back to the BooTrib homepage. Is this what you’re after? The code I used in the previous example was:
<a href="http://www.boomantribune.com">these words</a>
(I just figured out a round-about way of not having that URL get turned into a hyperlink itself.)
[“LINK http://www. boomantribune.com”]
Remove The ” and you get this:
LINK
Peace
This is how you do it…
<a href="http://www.villageblue.com/node/24#comment/">new name here</a>
To be able to post this without turning into link, click on ‘plain text’, in the box below comments, where you see ‘auto format’.
This one seems to work best for me, but many thanks to all of you!
Diane
Ahhhh, good!
Nice time to chime in, katiebird! Lol!
I’m off to buy a wedding shower present. Weddings? People still do that?
Me? You ask me? Really? (snorts and laughs)
So snorting. Yeah, what was I thinking? lol!
I’ve been tak’n a break from all the…..well ya’ know….been lett’n my “Soul Shine”..
I’ll be back, momentarily ; )
O my gosh, suskind! I totally missed your order.
Taking a break from housecleaning…and extremely sore from all the walking done yesterday. The spouse and I went out erranding yesterday, and left the car behind for once. Took the train down to San Jose to get our Amtrak tickets for our SoCal trip, then rode the light rail out to a local mall to pick up a few things. We were both worn out by the time we got home!
Grocery shopping today, as well as other cleaning chores.
Have a great day, all…
I’m sorry to have abandoned you for so long. I took a walk around the block, went to the hospital to see Mom & took another walk around the block.
Since it’s almost 95° most of you won’t be surprised that mister katiebird is working on cars with our son.
kansas, there are several good explanations above about links. But the way I do it is to lay down the skeleton of the code: <a href=””>the text to display</a>
Then I paste in the hyperlink. That way I don’t lose track of what I’m doing if the hyperlink is really long!
, can I finally read Harry Potter?
Katiebird, I still do not see your screen name on my members list at new site!!!!!!
Have you even been there yet?
Please, please Katie, go and see it!!!!!
and sign up toooooooooo!

Diane, I just deleted the code that came befor the img tag. That extra code doesn’t seem to do anything.
Thanks I got it, greattttttt!!!!
Wow! That looks Great! (sticks nose in cup and sniffs)
I see ya lurkin’ there in the shallows…
Peace brother
LOL…yeppers, that’s exactly what I saw when I looked outta the canoe yesterday, and tomorrow, mmmmm, mmmmm, on the grill ; )

I’ll be around…
The deck is 1/2 way done π Whoooot!!! It’s coming into focus. Bit by bit we’ll get this house done and sold.
All I had to do was tell my kids to haul the scraps and go and get some beer for the guys.
Thanks for helping me stay sane π
