Okay… short version:
I have been waiting for Frog Marching all summer — but not just the “Rove out of the White House” variety.
I have also been patiently waiting for the artists’ frogs to come to Willimantic. Finally, a few have started to show up.
And this revolutionary frog (below) alludes to the real story of the “not at all famous” frog battle of Willimantic.

All the good photos above are compliments of the Better Half, from whom I stole them.
Is this a public art show in Willimantic? How long will it be going on for? I have been thinking about taking the Kiddies to Mystic for a seaport/aquarium weekend- bet they would really dig those froggies.
It’s a public art display in Willimantic…
Here’s the official link about them–

I don’t know too much, just saw a blurb in the paper. Willimantic does a Third Thursday in the summer… where, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm they close most of main street (from the edge of Eastern Connecticut University” down to the entrance of the Frog Bridge (from which the fiberglass sculptures are taken)… We went for the first time the third Thursday in July… wow! 4 or 5 live bands, food, drinks, a great camel on stilts by someone from the UConn School of puppetry…someone handing out flyers for the DowningStreet Memos… Lots of kids, lots of adults.
But no frogs… So we went back looking on last Saturday and found these three and another up by the natural springs beside the exit to Willimantic off Route 6.
I think they are just beginning to “march out”
I suspect the Camel was from someone at Conn College (we camels don’t like to be confused with the big place even 20+ years after graduation!)
Ya know, I am not sure??
On 44, in the old Training School, UConn has a school of puppetry (or so I thought??– so maybe it’s Conn College’s ???) — but the “overheard word on the street” as they say, was that the camel on stilts used to work at the school of puppetry…
Maybe I have an old flyer around somewhere… I will try to dig it up and check for you…
How long do you expect the frogs to remain? I’m already shopping for a trip. Willimantic looks like a nice place to visit. Alas, I doubt I can make it. I hope you’ll publish the whole gallery for us as it appears. Thanks.
thanks so much for the pics, and the info, KUDOS
peace
Oh, Cho! Those are wonderful.
Aaron! Aren’t they???
Wish we’d found more of them… we will just have to go back for another “frog hunt.”
This is a delightful diversion from so much outrage producing news. Thanks for the pictures.
http://tinyurl.com/9gjcq and this link is to article about Sri Lanka finding 35 new species of frogs..and that Sri Lanka is the top spot in the world for frog species.
Thank you for your thankyou!
You are most welcome… We all need to refuel by seeking beauty in our surroundings.
Frog march, well, hmm, that second photo does show a curious resemblance to Rove. Thanks for posting this!
