One of the participants in tonight’s broadcast of Justice Sunday II is William Donohue head of the Manhattan-based Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights, one of the organizations participating in weekly conference calls to mobilize support for the confirmation of John Roberts to the Supreme Court. He also spoke at the first Justice Sunday telecast. In many ways he epitomizes the ongoing effort to forge a permanent alliance between conservative Protestants and Catholics, who are bonded on the hot-button issues of the culture war — and not very much else. But in the company of the Justice Sunday crowd, Donohue seems to have crossed over from advocacy to political thuggery:
Newsday reports: “‘I’m going to try to do my job to intimidate the Senate Judiciary Committee so they do their job more carefully,’ he said of his remarks.”
“Intimidate? Did he really mean that?,” Newsday asked. “‘Absolutely,’ he replied.”
